Blue city DA facing recall vote missed deadline to charge 1,000 misdemeanor cases, whistleblowers say

Embattled Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price has missed the deadline to charge around 1,000 individuals who had been suspected of committing a misdemeanor, according to whistleblowers who spoke to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Over 1,000 misdemeanor criminal cases in Price’s district passed the statute of limitations with no decision being reached by prosecutors, with Price blaming a backlog of cases for the expirations, according to the Chronicle’s report Thursday. The suspects in the criminal cases were either issued a misdemeanor citation or arrested by police before their cases were sent to Price’s office to be reviewed.

Some of the allegations from these cases include a woman holding brass knuckles who was discovered in a stolen vehicle and a driver who crashed into parked vehicles who tested at almost three times the legal limit for alcohol, according to the Chronicle.

Price is one of many district attorneys around the U.S. who have previously received campaign funding from billionaire George Soros, several of which have also been criticized for pursuing soft-on-crime agendas.

Price is currently facing a recall vote after accusations of her of allowing crime in the county to worsen, including the Save Alameda For Everyone (SAFE) campaign, which filed an intent to recall Price in July 2023 after she pushed for lenient sentencing policies for various violent offenders. The Alameda County Prosecutors’ Association also voted to support the recall effort against Price in June 2024, citing unfair and hostile work conditions.

Organizers seeking to unseat Price collected tens of thousands of verified signatures in support of their recall effort in April, with SAFE arguing that Price had been allowing crime to worsen due to her prioritizing criminals over victims. All 14 of Alameda County’s police unions have expressed support for the recall, according to the Chronicle.

While California Rep. Eric Swalwell announced his support for the recall at a press conference on Oct. 2, 2024, California Rep. Barbara Lee has opposed the effort, according to SFGATE.

“Whether it’s 2 Governors or local elected officials, I’ve always opposed recalls and oppose the recalls on our Nov 5th ballot,” Rep. Lee said in a post on X from Monday. “They’re undemocratic, costly, and chaotic. They prevent our officials from governing and deplete badly needed resources from our communities.”

Both the Alameda County Prosecutors’ Association and the Alameda County District Attorney’s office did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.
