US-Russia alliance key to world peace

Op-ed views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

Separating friend from foe is generally difficult for those dependent on the State Department or media sources to “help them” shape their opinions. It makes it difficult for most Americans to connect the dots, especially regarding Russia.

Former Ambassador to Russia and Obama advisor, Micheal McFaul, laid it out in his book, “From Cold War to Hot Peace.” In McFaul’s estimation, the Russian people were never truly given a chance at Democracy. They were the victims of autocrat, Vladimir Putin, who crushed all Democratic residences in the country.

In McFaul’s thinking, all people deserve Democracy. Never once did the idealistic McFaul consider that his version of Democracy was something that most Russians neither believed in nor wanted.

Although strikingly reminiscent of Anglo, Celtic, Teutonic and Slavik Americans in appearance, Russians are not Americans. They did not grow up with Aesop’s Fables or Canterbury Tales. Theirs has been a history without Democracy. Most Russians will quietly admit that “Democracy doesn’t work. It will end in an Oligarchy or Plutocracy. “

Most believe that Russia has historically thrived under a “Ceela Moosheena.” (Strong/Power Person). Whether it is Putin, Stalin, Catherine the Great, Peter the Great, or Ivan the Terrible, a strong autocratic figure was necessary to hold the vast land together.

Russia’s Quiet Transformation

Perhaps the misunderstanding gap originated from McFaul’s lack of familiarity with Russia’s pre-Soviet past. He recounts his quiet friendship with closet Russian Democrats during his school years in the 1980s. His time in Moscow was truly a trip to “the other side of the mirror.”

There were notable Russian Democrats, beginning with the late Boris Nemtsov. The former Deputy Prime Minister under President Boris Yeltsin, later fell out of favor with the Putin regime and was assassinated in February 2015. In McFaul’s thinking, this was the tragedy of tragedies. That Nemtsov was killed within sight of the Kremlin made his murder even more grisly.

Over the decades, the State Department has held virtual control over Russia’s policy. There was one opinion and one narrative. Any deviation was greeted with smug condescension. This was especially notable in 2001 when then Secretary of State, Colin Powell couched Russia’s effort to join NATO, as described in Angela Stern’s “The Limits of Partnerships.” This Powell did despite both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush’s endorsement.

A Monopoly on Ideology

Many State Department members are holdovers from the Obama Administration and the Bush Administration. Their orientation reflects Neo-Conservatism. There has never been an issue with engagement in preemptive wars. In State Department thinking, “exporting Democracy” is and has been, a noble goal.

Former Presidential candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy was one of the first to propose that State Department members should be term-limited. Whispered as a possible future Secretary of State, Ramaswamy quickly drew the ire of former Vice President, Dick Cheney and his daughter. Both have endorsed Kamala Harris for President.

In Ramaswamy’s view, continued support for the Ukraine war pushes Russia toward China’s camp. 45th President, Donald Trump concurs. Both Trump and Ramaswamy see Russia as the “lessor of two evils” when compared to Communist China.  Chaney’s and fellow Neo-cons, believe that ending the war in Ukraine is bad for business.

For hurricane victims in North Carolina, Georgia and other Southeastern states attempting to recover from Helene, money spent on Ukraine is money that could have been better used locally. When you have lost everything, resentment tends to grow. So does impatience with a government that places your needs secondary to a military adventure on the other side of the planet! Not to mention illegal migrants putting increasing pressure on the entitlement rolls. It amounts to a “double cross” by the government.

McFaul’s book describes then, V.P. Joe Biden’s famous slip in front of a hot mic, while in Moscow in 2010. Biden said that Russia would be better off not to allow Putin to run for an additional term, following the conclusion of Russian President, Demetri Medvedev’s term. The book describes Russian’s coldness to the idea of another Putin term. Biden’s ill-timed assertion changed the paradigm to “it is none of your damn business.”

Understanding Russian Orientation

McFaul may have never truly understood Russia’s true orientation. McFaul’s Russia was heavily skewed toward 1917 to 1991. His own secular humanist outlook is at odds with his ability to grasp the nation’s transformation since 1991. In short, Russia is a largely “faith based” nation today, as it was prior to 1917.

The Soviet Union was officially an Atheist country. Today’s Russia is roughly 60% Christian, 20% Islamic and 20% “other.” Faiths include Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Confucianists, Shiniest, Seeks, and all any other religions, in addition to atheists and agnostics. The rise in Christian churches in Russia since 2000 reflects Christianity’s explosion.

When I personally converted to Orthodox in 1999, I was amazed at its sheer directness. It translates from the original Aramaic to Greek to old Slavik. The western bible translates Aramaic, to Greek, to Latin to English, Spanish, French, German and other Western languages. In essence, we have an additional translation.

Orthodox is more literalistic. A stark example is Revelation, Chapter three, verses 15 and 16. Understanding these two verses lends insight into the basic Russian standard.

A Troubling Reality

Russians tend to hold a position that can be described as “black and white, with no gray.” This especially applies to homosexuality. The Orthodox church concludes that LGBTQ is sodomy and perversion. There is no middle ground here.

Russia has been called the “most homophobic, non-Arab country in the world.” It’s little wonder why the Western media outlets make no effort to hide their disdain for the nation and her people. The question becomes, “do these pundits represent the majority of America?” If the answer is “no,” we have a problem!

There is no way that Putin could work with Kamala Harris. He has seen Marxism from up close and wants no part of it. She is seen as a “deep state” puppet.  He has concluded that America is run by “men in dark suits who are always in the background.” Most hold “Trotskyite inclinations” and have no problem with “a protected place for the privileged few, and Communism for everyone else.”

Putin and the Russian inner circle have long since concluded that these “dark suits” are the true American decision-makers.  Harris, like Biden, Obama, Clinton and the Bushes were “deep state puppets.” Donald Trump is from the business side of America. He is the unwelcome outsider who crashed their party.  In Russia, the 45th President is referred to as “vash ceela mooshina.” (Your strong man).

Conversely, Biden is considered “vash gloopyetz”(Your fool). Barack Obama is called “vash meely malchik”(Your blue boy.) Kremlin insiders think that he is gay.

A stronger relationship with Russia benefits not only both countries but the world. Peace over war always wins out, much to the disdain of war focused, Dick Cheney, his daughter and Neo cons struggling to stay relevant. Most fear these traditional Russian standards quickly crossing the oceans.
