Sports teams issue statement over rapper after ‘F**k America!’ rant

Two sports teams issued a joint statement after 41-year-old rapper Macklemore’s anti-American rhetoric was once again put on display.

The artist, whose real name is Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, performed at the “Palestine Will Live Forever Festival” in Seattle, Washington where he reportedly shouted “f**k America to thunderous applause,” according to journalist Cam Higby who posted video of the moment on X. He claimed that proceeds from the event would go to several organizations including the controversial United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), which Israel has said works with Hamas. “The U.N. itself announced in August that nine UNRWA staffers would be fired due to possible involvement in the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas terror attack on Israel,” Fox News reported.

Macklemore is also part of the ownership group of two sports teams, NHL’s Seattle Kraken and MLS’ Seattle Sounders FC. The teams issued a joint statement after the anti-American sentiments began to spark backlash.

“We believe that sports bring people together and unite us. We are aware of Macklemore’s increasingly divisive comments, and they do not reflect the values of our respective ownership groups, leagues, or organizations,” they said. “We are currently evaluating our collective options on this matter.”

X users were more than happy to show the rapper the door:
