Former President Donald Trump traveled to Sierra Vista, Arizona, on Thursday to tour the southern border with Mexico, and the trip did not go off without a little drama.

Turns out, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was actively searching for a man who allegedly threatened to kill Trump.

Fortunately, the suspect, Ronald Syrvud, 66, would be apprehended Thursday evening after Cochise County Sheriff’s Office issued a wanted notice for him.

“On Tuesday, August 21, 2022, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a threatening message on social media from a male subject directed at candidate Donald Trump. This message contained language that indicated bodily harm to the candidate,” the CCSO said in a Facebook statement. “As a result of this information, research was conducted that led to the identity of the suspect Ronald Syvrud, and the discovery of multiple outstanding warrants.”

“On Wednesday, August 22, 2024, a second social media post was identified that again contained threats toward candidate Trump from suspect Syvrud,” the statement added.

The sheriff’s office went on to say Syrvud “has been taken into custody without incident in Cochise County. We appreciate all of the information received and the incredible collaborative efforts with all of our public safety partners.”

The suspect had several outstanding warrants for his arrest, including for a DUI and failure to appear in court in Wisconsin, and for failure to register as a sex offender and felony hit and run in Arizona.

Syvrud is reportedly listed on the Wisconsin Department of Corrections sex offender registry for “second-degree sexual assault of a child.”

Sheriff Mark Dannels did not specify the nature of the threats directed toward Trump.

“We have zero tolerance for any kind of threats or intents of violence, so we’ll find him. He’ll go to jail,’ Dannels told the Daily Mail before the arrest. “He’s a registered sex offender here in Cochise County, and we were looking for him. He’s out of compliance as part of his violations. So we’re looking for him on that.”

“We’re going to arrest him on that,” he added. “But also the fact his pulse was obviously directed toward this event. So we want to talk to him about that.”

Interestingly, Trump cut short an interview with NewsNation while at the border.
