‘Bald faced lie’: PBS reporter retracts bogus accusation against Trump after eager leftists eat it up

Judy Woodruff of PBS News has backed down from a spurious claim she made earlier this week about former President Donald Trump.

She accused him of having pressured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a recent phone call into not accepting a ceasefire deal with Hamas because the deal would have made Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign look good.

“The reporting is that former President Trump is on the phone with the Prime Minister of Israel, urging him not to cut a deal right now, because it’s believed that would help the Harris campaign,” she said Monday.

Her remarks were eaten up by the left, who then proceeded to accuse Trump of having committed treason and of deserving to be arrested.

“Trump, a convicted felon citizen, no longer in any role as an elected official, conspiring with Netanyahu, to avoid peace, because it might help his political opponent, is pretty balls to the wall treason,” actor Steven Pasquale tweeted. “Logan act. A crime. We still have laws here don’t we?”

Speaking of the Logan Act, a discredited left-wing PAC, the American Muckrakers PAC, has already accused Trump of violating it.

“Today, we became aware that former President Donald John Trump is allegedly violating the Logan Act by negotiating, and/or interfering, with the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu regarding relations between the United States, Israel, and other parties,” a letter sent by the PAC to the Biden administration reads.

There’s just one problem. The accusation is bull. Indeed, both Trump’s campaign and Netanyahu’s office have disputed that a call was even made in the first place.

“Contrary to media reports, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not speak yesterday with former President Donald Trump,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement to the Times of Israel.

Speaking at a New Jersey press conference last week, Trump likewise said that the last time the two spoke was when Netanyahu visited Mar-a-Lago on July 26th.

“I did encourage him [at the time] to get this over with,” he said. “You want to get it over with fast. Have victory, get your victory, and get it over with. It has to stop, the killing has to stop.”

Woodruff evidently finally got the message loud and clear on Wednesday, the day she posted a tweet completely backtracking from her previous accusation.

“I want to clarify my remarks on the PBS News special on Monday night about the ongoing cease-fire talks in the Middle East,” she wrote. “As I said, this was not based on my original reporting; I was referring to reports I had read, in Axios and Reuters, about former President Trump having spoken to the Israeli Prime Minister.”

“In the live TV moment, I repeated the story because I hadn’t seen later reporting that both sides denied it. This was a mistake and I apologize for it,” she added.
