Did he get it or not? Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) posted a pair of cryptic messages on X about “serving” that drew plenty of attention — especially after he deleted one of the posts.
Kelly is reportedly on the shortlist to be Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate as is Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, who comes with a bit of baggage, assuming she is anointed as the Democratic presidential nominee in two weeks in Chicago.
In a now-deleted post, Kelly first declared, “I spent my life in the Navy and at NASA, where the mission always comes first. Now, my mission is serving Arizonans.”

The post prompted plenty of speculation that Kelly was no longer in contention to be Harris’s veep. But after deleting it, Kelly posted a second message that seemed to imply the very opposite.
“Whether it was from my time in the Navy and at NASA, serving in the United States Senate, or visiting our troops overseas: I’ve learned that when your country asks you to serve, you always answer the call,” Kelly wrote.

So which is it? Is Kelly in or out? Or, is “serving” your country, in this case, keeping the speculation and interest alive in just who Kamala Harris may select?
Shapiro and Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota were scheduled for in-person interviews earlier in the day Sunday, according to the Daily Mail. The irony here is that while Harris is in her current role solely because of her race and gender, she appears to be determined to tap a white male as her running mate. Other names in the mix include Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.
Harris, who has yet to face the media since being tapped heir apparent to cognitively challenged President Joe Biden, is expected to announce her choice as early as Monday, ahead of her first public appearance with the vice presidential nominee on Tuesday in Philadelphia, the Daily Mail reported.
Social media users were suffering from “whiplash” from Kelly’s sudden about-face… here’s a quick sampling of responses, as seen on X:

Given your NASA experience, explain (slowly) to Kamala that the “cloud” isn’t up in the sky.

My head is spinning. Is Sen. Mark Kelly still in the running or is he out of it? The palace intrigue is getting old. I hope we know who the running mate is by tomorrow at the latest. pic.twitter.com/t044SYN5OR
