The spectre of fascism lives in the Democratic Party

Op-ed views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

More than one Republican is lamenting that “the party of Reagan is not the party of Reagan.” No, it isn’t. This is not the world of Ronald Reagan, Reagan himself would admit that. Reagan, supplanting the party of Gerald Ford had forged ahead to rescue the country from Jimmy Carter as Donald Trump supplanting the party of George W. Bush is forging ahead to rescue the country from Joe Biden. Regan’s time is gone, and yes, there are dangerous enemies abroad, but more insidious ones at home, determined to raise socialist authoritarianism from the dead.

While the left rails against the non-existent Fascism of Donald Trump (do they even know what Fascism is?) President Biden has continually violated his oath of office to faithfully execute the law. Here are but a few examples:

Repeatedly violated 8 USC and permitted and supported invasion by foreign persons.

Gives aliens benefits violating law forbidding “immigrants” from becoming a public charge

Publicly demonized white Americans as white supremacists

Biden’s alliance with big business and unions like the AFT are the basic definition of what was termed the Corporate State, the unity of government, the cartels, the big unions, in other words, Fascism–Italian dictator Benito Mussolini’s failed authoritarian prescription to save the Italian nation.

Biden’s version has brought a ruinous inflation hollowing out pay cheques and savings, pushing housing out of reach and making ordinary commodities luxuries.  His big business allies have continued to move jobs to China or cheap labor countries devasting the US industrial base and communities, his powerful union supporters like the AFT have ruined public education and lust to destroy private and charter schools where pupils actually learn. Meanwhile, federal agencies like the EPA unconstitutionally extend their tentacles into every aspect of life with rules of appeal so costly as to be prohibitive.

Not content with strangling the economy the Democrats have shown themselves inimical to the very structure of the country, a country they are busy undermining by destroying constitutional safeguards like the Electoral College and the Supreme Court.

The reasons for the Electoral College are as valid today as they were when the constitution was conceived. The electoral system* recognizes the United States is a federal republic, not a democracy. It prevents the large states (in those days, Virginia and New York, today the West Coast and Northeast) from dominating the nation at the expense of the rest of the country. To examine the effect in microcosm, see Reynolds v. Sims which destroyed a “republican form of government” at the state level allowing the large metropolitan areas to dominate both houses of the legislature.

The current conservative-leaning Supreme Court is the enemy of “progressive” ideology and must be destroyed by packing the court or attacking the character and actions of originalist justices. Their real reason is that an originalist view of the constitution impedes their desire for an all-powerful central government with themselves in charge. This is not new; they’ve been at it for over a century. The great “progressive (and militant segregationist) Woodrow Wilson had contempt for the constitution because it impeded his view of presidential power. Renowned legal scholar Rosco Pound deplored the separation of powers as restricting “the courts to interpretation and application” i.e., the courts could not engage in legal magic by usurping the legislative power. It was only legal legerdemain that imposed Reynolds, and Roe on the country as noted in Raoul Berger’s seminal Government by Judiciary.

Far from being a “fascist” it is Donald Trump who is the constitutionalist. As president, he did not use the law to punish opponents but faithfully executed the law he was sworn to uphold and adhered to constitutional limitations.  It will be Trump and the Court’s conservatives (and hopefully a Republican Congress) that will hold back the “progressives” in their headlong rush to constitutional vandalism and the authoritarian state.
