Pelosi privately telling Dems that Joe’s a goner – report

Nancy Pelosi has reportedly given the ok for vulnerable Democrat lawmakers to call for President Joe Biden to quit the race and is privately saying that she doesn’t believe that he can win the election.

The former House speaker surprised some with her tepid support of the feeble 81-year-old on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” where she said that “time is running short” for Biden to decide if he’s going to run. Biden has repeatedly insisted that he’s not going anywhere.

Politico Playbook reported that Pelosi has been doing some “behind-the-scenes maneuvering” after her appearance on Biden’s favorite morning show, and according to “a person close to Pelosi” her remarks were intended to “serve as a subtle green light…meant to encourage members to speak up about their desire to see change atop the ticket — and to warn Biden to reconsider staying in the race.”

The outlet added, “In private conversations with lawmakers, we’re told, the former speaker hasn’t tried to hide her disdain for the situation that party now finds itself in. She’s suggested to people that Biden won’t win this November and should step aside, according to about a half-dozen lawmakers and others who have spoken with her or are familiar with these conversations.”

“I did have a conversation with her, she is very concerned,” one House Democrat told The Hill, “It’s not like she’s like, ‘We’re sticking with this guy.’”

“I’ve had my own conversations with her,” another anonymous lawmaker said. “It’s just an obvious concern. The stakes are so high. We can’t afford to do anything but have our best possible opportunity to win.”

More House Democrats seem to have taken their clue from the speaker emerita and joined the ranks of those calling for Joe to go after his disastrous “big boy” press conference on Thursday during which he referred to heir apparent Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump.”

Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) who’s the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee called for Biden to step aside.

The Connecticut Democrat said that it’s been “the honor” of his career to have worked with the geriatric leader on  “achievements that secured his remarkable legacy in American history.”

“It is because of those traits, and in consideration of that legacy, that I hope President Biden will step away from the presidential campaign,” Himes wrote in a statement that he posted to X.

Joining Himes were Reps. Scott Peters (D-CA) and Eric Sorensen (D-IL) who added their names to the growing list of Dem lawmakers urging Biden to get out before he drags the entire party down with him.

A spokesperson for Pelosi denied that she had told anyone that it was time for Biden to step down.

“Publicly and privately, Speaker Pelosi has acknowledged the concerns that many have expressed in recent days but has repeatedly said that she fully supports whatever President Biden decides to do,” the spox told Politico.
