Liz Cheney slithers out for Independence Day lecture about Trump

Liz Cheney seems to understand that her only political value as a rejected Republican politician is to bash Donald Trump and to ensure her Fourth of July greeting got any attention, she did just that.

Taking to X, Cheney shared a Sept. 2005 speech by the late two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David McCullough.

“Take a few minutes today to read David McCullough’s speech: ‘The Glorious Cause of America.’ For 248 years, our freedom has survived. Now, its defense is up to us. We must defeat the former president who threatens to unravel our Republic. We must not fail.”

The “we” Cheney refers to being her and her Democrat allies, who share the common goal of keeping 81-year-old cognitively challenged President Joe Biden in office.

A cherry-picked portion of the speech seemingly warns about how events may turn out, should Trump be returned to the White House — the left’s claims that the former president would be a dictator during a second term, despite the constitutional restraints, were injected with steroids with the Supreme Court ruling on Monday that presidents have “absolute immunity for “official” acts.

More from McCullough’s speech:

We should understand that history was never on a track. It was never preordained that it would turn out as it did.

Very often we are taught history as if it were predetermined, and if that way of teaching begins early enough and is sustained through our education, we begin to think that it had to have happened as it did. We think that there had to have been a Revolutionary War, that there had to have been a Declaration of Independence, that there had to have been a Constitution, but never was that so. In history, chance plays a part again and again. Character counts over and over. Personality is often the determining factor in why things turn out the way they do.

Social media users are onto Cheney’s ruse, with some suggesting she has other reasons to worry about Trump being elected to a second term.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
