Republican Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee introduced a resolution on Wednesday condemning the United Nations (UN) for listing the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) as “child’s rights abusers.”
The UN published its “Secretary General’s Annual Report on Children and Armed Conflict” on June 3, which included the IDF alongside terrorist organizations including the Taliban and Al-Shabaab for committing “grave violations against children.” H.R. 1323 calls to reject the UN’s decision, condemns the UN’s “longstanding bias against Israel” and calls on Hamas to free all the remaining hostages.
“This latest stunt by the United Nations is a total joke,” Burchett said in a statement obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Israel is our greatest ally in the Middle East and their leadership tries to protect life. Hamas, on the other hand, hides behind innocent civilians like a bunch of cowards. We need to make it clear to the United Nations that the United States completely supports Israel’s efforts to wipe these terrorists off the map.”
The bill is cosponsored by Republican Rep. Mike Lawler of New York and Democratic Reps. Jared Moskowitz of Florida and Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey.
The United Nations put the Israeli Defense Force on a list of children’s rights abusers alongside groups like the Taliban and Hezbollah. What a joke.
I introduced a resolution that rejects that decision, condemns the UN’s anti-Israel bias, and reaffirms our support for Israel.

The UN’s “bias against Israel … reached unprecedented levels” following Oct. 7, when over 1,200 people were killed and over 250 were taken hostage by Hamas terrorists, the resolution reads. It claims the UN passes “more resolutions targeting Israel than any other country in the world” and notes that the UN refuses “to recognize Hamas as a terrorist organization.”
The resolution also says Hamas uses “funds intended for humanitarian needs” to construct a “massive tunnel network under Gaza for its terror activities,” and that it uses “civilians and civilian infrastructure as human shields, which is a war crime.”
The IDF has taken “unprecedented precautions to reduce harm to civilians,” including by “aborting strikes when civilians are identified” and “warning and evacuation civilians prior to planned strikes,” the resolution reads. It also reaffirms the United States’ recognition of Israel’s right to “protect and defend its citizens from those, like Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran, that seek the destruction of the State of Israel.”
