The Department of Justice (DOJ) unsealed an indictment Monday for a Texas surgeon who was charged after blowing the whistle on a children’s hospital performing sex change procedures on minors.
Dr. Eithan Haim was hit with a four-count indictment on May 29 for allegedly obtaining and disclosing “personal information” about patients from the Texas Children’s Hospital’s (TCH) electronic system, according to the DOJ. The indictment alleges he obtained the information “under false pretenses and with intent to cause malicious harm to TCH.”
“In April 2023, Haim allegedly requested to re-activate his login access at TCH to access pediatric patients not under his care,” the DOJ’s news release states. “The indictment alleges he obtained unauthorized access to personal information of pediatric patients under false pretenses and later disclosed it to a media contact.”

Though the Texas Children’s Hospital claimed it shut down its child gender program, Haim provided documents to journalist Christopher Rufo demonstrating that the hospital continued to secretly provide the procedures, including sex-change surgeries and cross-sex hormones, to children. Rufo, who published the story in May 2023, wrote following Haim’s indictment that “nothing in the information provided to me identified any individual; all the documents were, in fact, carefully redacted
Federal agents first showed up at Haim’s apartment in June 2023 to notify him that he may be subject to a criminal investigation, according to his legal defense fundraising page.
“The most important thing is that, at this point, it’s game time,” Haim previously told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “We’re entering the arena, we have to fight back. I’m not going to be silenced, I’m not going to be intimidated. The most likely chance we have of winning is to win this in court.”
Haim and his attorneys did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.
