‘Feels like a cry for help’: Biden marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

When it comes to President Joe Biden and his administration, sometimes the jokes write themselves.

On Friday, a frail Biden issued a proclamation marking World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which fell on Saturday, June 15. The recognition coming after a challenging week for the octogenarian president, who endured a series of bad optics, including struggling with speech,  while attending the G7 Summit in Southern Italy.

“Older Americans are the heart and soul of our families, our communities, and our Nation. But every year, up to five million older Americans face some form of abuse. Around the world, too many are denied the opportunity to age with dignity and security,” Biden proclaimed in a statement released by the White House.

Explaining that elder abuse “comes in many forms,” Biden reassured Americans that his administration “is working relentlessly to stop it.” Ironically, some may argue his administration is actively engaged in elderly abuse by continually putting Biden in positions that expose his cognitive limitations.

“This World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, let us remember the integral and irreplaceable role that older Americans have in our families, our communities, and our society. Let us recommit to ensuring that they can live with the comfort, dignity, and respect they earned and deserve,” the geriatric president concluded.

Columnist T. Becket Adams responded to the proclamation by observing: “This feels like a cry for help.”

Social media users, armed with an arsenal of snark, were in agreement — here’s a quick sampling of some of the responses to the story, as seen on X:
