A former pollster for President Bill Clinton warned Monday that President Joe Biden wouldn’t win reelection if he remained “tone deaf” on key issues.

Former President Donald Trump currently leads Biden by 0.8% in the RealClearPolitics average of general election polls for a head-to-head matchup as of Tuesday, with the lead growing to 2.0% when Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein and independent presidential candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West are included. Doug Schoen said that Biden’s “precipitous drop” among black, Hispanic, and young voters came from his failure to seriously address issues like the economy, inflation, and the border.

“I think what Biden needs and we haven’t seen it so far, Harris, is a program to revitalize the economy, to bring down prices at the pump and the grocery store, and most of all to acknowledge the pain that people of color, African-Americans, Hispanics, Asians …,” Schoen said before Fox News host Harris Faulkner interrupted him by saying, “Everybody.”

“I was speaking about the minority vote, but it is all Americans,” Schoen told Faulkner. “So far, we haven’t heard it, Harris, and it is a tone-deaf reaction from the White House that I think is explaining what we pick up in our polls, too, which is a precipitous decline in Biden’s support with minorities.”

Only 32.8% of voters approve of Biden’s handling of immigration, according to the RealClearPolling (RCP) average of polls from May 15 to June 6, while 59.5% disapprove of his handling of the issue. On the economy, Biden’s average approval rating was only 40.6% in the RCP average, while only 35.8% gave him good marks on inflation.

The Consumer Price Index increased by 3.4% year-over-year in April, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“I would say that there’s an additional problem with younger voters, again all younger voters, which is the candidacy of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who is running against what [James] Carville was talking about, the lack of a good choice, the failure of the system to deliver…” Schoen said before Faulkner interrupted him, saying, “But Democrats didn’t want him. They made it very difficult for him to stand in the room. Let’s not forget that part.”

Kennedy announced he would run as an independent candidate in October, after accusing the Democratic National Committee (DNC) of “denying the people their sovereignty and their voice.” The DNC filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission in February, accusing a super PAC backing efforts to get Kennedy on the ballot of illegally coordinating with his campaign, Politico reported.

Kennedy filed a FEC complaint against CNN and the Trump and Biden campaigns in May over his exclusion from a June 27 debate hosted by the 24-hour news network.

“No, no, and they’re still doing it, Harris, and they will continue to do it because they are afraid he will pull votes away from Joe Biden, especially with younger people,” Schoen said. “And until… I think Tammy [Bruce] is right. I wish she was wrong. I can’t say she is wrong. There needs to be a program on the economy, on inflation, and on the border that is rational, nonpartisan, and responds to people’s concerns. If Joe Biden doesn’t do it, I don’t believe he will be reelected.”
