Op-ed views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.
In his 2000 essay, “The Origins of Political Correctness,” Bill Lind wrote: “We call it Political Correctness. The name originated as something of a joke, literally in a comic strip, and we tend to think of it only as half-serious. In fact, it’s deadly serious. It is the great disease of our century, the disease that has left tens of millions of people dead in Europe, in Russia, China, and indeed around the world. It is the disease of ideology. PC is not funny. PC is dead serious.
“If we look at it analytically, if we look at it historically, we quickly find out which it is. Political Correctness is cultural Marxism. It is Marxism translated from economic into cultural terms. It is an effort that goes back not to the 1960’s, the hippies and the peace movement, but to World War I. If we compare the basic tenets of Political Correctness with classical Marxism the parallels are obvious.”
A Difficult but not Impossible Endeavor
Perhaps the most challenging aspect is methodology. Proponents must be unified. Amazingly, the objective runs through Russia. Vladimir Putin is as “anti-woke” as Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis. Russians in general, agree that Marxism was a bad thing. When the Communist’s dirty little secret came out during Glasnost, they were appalled at the breadth and the dirtiness of the deed. Yet Russians do not trust Americans. There is a reason for this mistrust.
Up until 1917, the two countries were friends and allies. Then came the revolution. The right question is “which revolution?” There were two. The first, a peaceful, democratic-inspired election came immediately after Tsar Nicholas II abdicated. The Bolshevik Revolution followed.
When I visited Krasnoyarsk in 1998, six, extremely well-educated, young Russians greeted me with a question never heard: “Why did the United States interfere with our revolution?” A document showing a one-million-dollar bank draft from J.P. Morgan made payable to an organization behind Lenin was disclosed. My response that “J.P. Morgan was not the American government” was met with rolling eyes and a one-word response: “Kahneshna.” (Of course).
Putin has repeatedly said that “America is actually run by those men in black suits in the background.” He recounts how Russia’s attempt to join NATO in 2000 and 2001 was stymied by then Secretary of State, Colin Powell, despite endorsements by both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. The late Powell apparently concluded that it was a bad idea.
To win Russia’s cooperation, we must do two things. We must apologize for J.P. Morgan’s revolution interference, and we must immediately eliminate our “fourth branch of government.” There is growing support for the latter.
Eliminating Western Hemisphere Interference
In an inspiring “U.S.-Russia Relations” course at the University of Kentucky, instructor, Cary Cavenaugh, a former Ambassador, stated, “Donald Trump did not have a Russia policy.” In truth, Trump did have a Russia policy! It amounted to, “Putin understands a deal and I know how to make one.”
Contrary to popular opinion, Putin does not want to resurrect the Soviet Union. It’s about “uniting Slavic people.” Cavenaugh acknowledged the “Slavic connection” repeatedly in the course. Russians have made it clear that Russia “is not interested in taking care of poor people in former Republics.” Nor or they interested in Western expansion. What they want is simple: “Little Russia and White Russia,” AKA Belarus and Ukraine. Same people. Same religion. This was Russia during Peter the Great’s time.
Like Trump, Putin is a realist and a pragmatist. He knows that he would need to offer something of extreme value to gain such a concession. His support backed with a promise of military aid to enforce the Monroe Doctrine would be sufficient. With China effectively boxed out, abandonment of Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia and Central America would result.
Expect possible repercussions. Most of our semi-conductors are being produced in Taiwan. Correcting this globalist mistake will take time. The good news is that Biden’s open border policy creates an unlimited convict labor force. A massive rail system that connects the lower 48 to Alaska, would make possible increased food production for export. This is the kind of leverage needed to keep China at bay.
The Final Cleanup
Marxists must be purged from all aspects of academia, the bureaucracy, media, entertainment and publishing. Florida Senator, Marco Rubio accurately clarified, “There are many Marxists in America who don’t even know that they are Marxists.” A litmus test would be devised. Who would perform such a task and what would be included is a topic for future writing.
It begins with the over-the-air broadcast media. License renewals would be at the forefront of the discussion. The number one priority for any media entity is “serving the public in a neutral, non-biased fashion.” If NBC or ABC were deemed to have failed this objective, their owners, Comcast and Disney would face license revocation.
Public institutions of higher learning, including federal land grant institutions, would mandate “annual objectivity reviews” as a prerequisite for continued employment for certain faculty and staff members. This would eliminate the accepted practice of Stalinist-inspired educators terrorizing conservative students as Rubio revealed in his 2022 CPAC speech.
Entertainment and Publishing would be held to the same standard. Our airwaves are currently filled with anti-American, “pro-woke” rhetoric. Censorship, the policy of the Biden administration, would not be the standard. Disclosure would be. A program holding Marxist views would be identified. Ditto for print publications and online offerings. Pro-Marxist newscasters would be required to self-identify as such.
Meanwhile, the public would learn the truth about Marxism. Mini-series showing Mao’s “Great Leap Forward” and Stalin’s “1930’s forced famines” would be produced with the same graphic intensity as “Holocaust” and “War and Remembrance.” Grants for anti-Marxist movies, magazines and books would be budgeted.
75% of the federal bureaucracy would be eliminated. Those who remained would be subject to intense scrutiny. Marxist politicians while not banned, would be required to self-identify as Marxists.
“McCarthyism on steroids?” Perhaps. But we cannot allow this failed system that has murdered millions to continue existence. If handled correctly, it will eventually die, as it did in Russia.
