Former Democrat presidential candidate Rep. Dean Phillips has called for former President Donald Trump to be pardoned.
In a stunning tweet posted late Friday, he derided Trump as this, that, and the other, but stressed that he should be pardoned by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul anyway “for the good of the country.”
“Donald Trump is a serial liar, cheater, and philanderer, a six-time declarer of corporate bankruptcy, an instigator of insurrection, and a convicted felon who thrives on portraying himself as a victim,” he wrote. “@GovKathyHochul should pardon him for the good of the country.”

The tweet prompted a firestorm of fury and insults from obsessed Trump haters who couldn’t stand the thought of the former president being spared a sentence, including potential jail/prison time.
“You should sit all the way down for the good of the country,” one Trump hater tweeted.
“There is a reason your campaign never took off. Delete this,” another wrote.

Whether you are being sarcastic or not, I’m GLAD you will no longer be my US House Rep.

This is an abomination to even consider. I can’t believe you thought this let alone typed it out, thought it’s a good idea, and hit post

Hey Dean, remember when you could barely scrape four figures and your campaign was so pathetic that you gave Marianne Williamson hope to unretire?
And then after you humiliated yourself for Harlan Crowe’s money for a few more months, you quit and we didn’t hear from you?

The party of “decency,” ladies and gentlemen …
That being said, Trump stands zero chance in hell of being pardoned by either Hochul or, for that matter, President Joe Biden.
But this hasn’t stopped a number of commentators from arguing that the president SHOULD pardon his predecessor.
“President Biden should pardon Donald Trump of any and all crimes and suggest publicly that Gov. Hochul do the same thing,” Bill O’Reilly said Friday on NewsNation.
“And then … President Biden should pardon his son Hunter. That would throw the whole acrimonious system into absolute chaos,” he added.
That’d definitely be something. Recall that his scandal-plagued son is also facing charges of his own. Recall also how the Biden administration had tried to secure a sweetheart plea deal for Hunter.
To be clear, the current president can’t pardon Trump in the just-concluded hush money case because it’s a state case. But the president could preemptively pardon Trump in his Jan. 6th and classified documents case. Will he, though? Probably not.
Listen to O’Reilly below:
Meanwhile, Daniel Flitton of the Lowy Institute has also called for Biden to somehow pardon Trump, albeit for different reasons.
According to Flitton, a pardon would effectively shut Trump up, thus ostensibly benefitting Biden massively in the upcoming election.
“Biden could rob Trump of one of his most potent political assets, the persecution complex, which Trump uses to gin up his base,” he wrote in a piece for the institute. “Biden could show ‘the law is a respecter of reality,’ as [former President Gerald] Ford put it, because the presidential pardon is very much a part of the US legal system.”
“At the stroke of a pen, Biden could remove much of the circus-carnival atmospherics that dominate this campaign. Would it be controversial? You betcha. But Biden’s opportunity to argue from the high ground has to be better than wrestling in the mud with Trump,” he added.
But again, Biden basically has no say in this matter, though he could always pen a letter to Hochul begging her to pardon Trump.
All this comes days after Trump was convicted of falsifying business records, a misdemeanor charge that was upgraded to a felony by corrupt Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Trump now awaits sentencing on July 11th.
