A House Oversight Committee hearing turned into a verbal fistfight late Thursday after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene started trash-talking her Democrat colleagues.
The hearing, designed to discuss a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for brazenly refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena, started going sideways when Greene asked if any committee members were employing the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan.
Merchan is the judge presiding over former President Donald Trump’s hush money case. The former president has repeatedly accused the judge’s daughter of being a partisan actor beholden to the Democrat Party.
Responding to Greene’s question, Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett asked to know what the question had to do with the hearing’s subject matter, AG Garland.

“Please tell me what that has to do with Merrick Garland. Do you know what we’re here for? Do you know we’re here …,” Crockett said before being cut off by Greene.
“I think your fake eyelashes are messing up your …,” the congresswoman said before being cut off by committee chair James Comer, who proceeded to turn the mic over to Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
“I would like to move to take down Ms. Greene’s words,” the lawmaker angrily marked. “That is absolutely unacceptable! How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person!”
This is when things started getting really heated.
“Are your feelings hurt?” Greene mockingly asked.
“Move her words down!” Ocasio-Cortez shrieked.
“Aww,” the Republican congresswoman responded.
“Oh! Girl, baby, girl! Don’t even play!” Ocasio-Cortez grumbled.
“Baby girl? I don’t think so,” Greene responded.
Greene eventually agreed to strike her words from the congressional record, but Ocasio-Cortez cried foul, demanding an apology as well.
Listen:
Marjorie Taylor Greene ROASTING AOC is the highlight of the night so far
AOC: “She has to apologize”
MTG: “I’m not apologizing. Why don’t you debate me?”
AOC: “That’s self evident”
MTG: “Yeah, you don’t have enough intelligence”

Greene didn’t take kindly to the demand.
“I’m not apologizing,” she said. “Why don’t you debate me?”
“That’s self-evident,” Ocasio-Cortez replied.
“Yeah, you don’t have enough intelligence,” Greene responded.
After this spectacle, Crockett then tried turning the tables on the Republican congresswoman.
“If someone on this committee starts talking about somebody’s bleached blonde, bad-built, butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?” she asked sarcastically.
This prompted another congresswoman, Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, to demand that HER words be stricken from the record.

But the drama still wasn’t over.
Later during the hearing, Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert voted with Democrats on a motion to prevent Greene from speaking and also apologized to Congress on Greene’s behalf.
“I just want to apologize to the American people,” she said. “When things get as heated as they have, unfortunately, it’s an embarrassment on our body as a whole.”

As noted earlier, Thursday’s hearing was about Garland. It was specifically about him refusing to turn over former special counsel Robert K. Hur’s deposition of President Joe Biden.
“Ultimately, the Republican-led panel approved a report recommending a contempt of Congress resolution against Garland. It’s now up to the House to vote, though it is unclear when that may take place,” The Daily Beast noted.
After the hearing, Crockett moved some of her own trash-talking to Twitter.
“This is what happens when mentally deficient people who can’t read and follow rules or just don’t give a damn… somehow end up in CONGRESS!” she tweeted, taking a swipe at Greene.
Look:
So MTG wanted to talk about my appearance in COMMITTEE?!
It’s against the rules to do…
She refused to apologize!
The chairman ruled that it was ok…
AND I asked for clarification about what qualifies as “engaging in personalities”
& basically wanted to know if I could…— Jasmine Crockett (@JasmineForUS) May 17, 2024
