Donald Trump got the full attention of Team Biden when he slammed the Biden White House for “running a Gestapo administration” — the jab being a reference to the lawfare being waged against the former president and presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee.

Trump made the comment over the weekend during a fundraising event at Mar-a-Lago that was likened to a debutante ball for potential running mates. He also blasted special counsel Jack Smith, calling him an “evil thug” and a “f*cking a**hole.”

“And it’s the only thing they have,” the former president added. “And it’s the only way they’re going to win, in their opinion, and it’s actually killing them. But it doesn’t bother me.”

Deputy White House press secretary Andrew Bates fired back in a statement on Sunday.

“Instead of echoing the appalling rhetoric of fascists, lunching with Neo Nazis, and fanning debunked conspiracy theories that have cost brave police officers their lives, President Biden is bringing the American people together around our shared democratic values and the rule of law — an approach that has delivered the biggest violent crime reduction in 50 years,” Bates claimed.

Democracy and the rule of law are not exactly what comes to mind from an administration that appears to be using government agencies to target political opponents. As for the reduction in violent crime that the Biden campaign keeps falling back on — statistics compiled by the FBI, which has all but obliterated its reputation by pursuing political agendas — it’s hard to count crimes being committed when there aren’t enough police officers to even cover 911 calls, as has been the case in a number of U.S. cities.

Roughly 400 guests were in attendance Saturday at Trump’s Palm Beach, Florida home. At one point, he repeated a comparison made previously about him being treated like the notorious gangster Al Capone.

“I got indicted like Alphonse and like all these people,” he said. “Once I got indicted, I said holy sh*t, I just got indicted. Me, I got indicted. In fact, Lara, if she knew I got indicted, she probably wouldn’t have joined the family.”

Daughter-in-law Lara Trump, recently named co-chair of the Republican National Committee, was in attendance when Trump joked about her potentially being hesitant about marrying into the family.

No surprise, but the media covered Trump likening the Biden administration to the Nazi secret police by flipping the narrative.

Saturday’s remarks were the latest instance of Trump drawing criticism for using language reminiscent of dictatorships during World War II.

The former president has on multiple occasions claimed immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally were “poisoning the blood” of the country, language that Democrats argued was parroting Adolf Hitler.

Trump last year also referred to his political opponents as “vermin” who posed a threat to the country from within, drawing further condemnation from critics who said it echoed the autocratic language of Hitler and Benito Mussolini.
