A few days ago, Tucker Carlson brazenly predicted a war pitting the United States against Russia.
When I explored the article it sounded more like NATO against Russia, with the U.S. being the benchmark of NATO resistance. And of course, the U.S. would be funding the better part of the effort.
The question most frequently asked by the average American is, “don’t I get a say in it?”
The answer is obviously “no!”
The New Elysium
Some years ago, a thought-provoking movie headed by an all-star cast featuring Matt Damon caught the country’s attention. It depicted an overcrowded Earth and a world population living in relative squalor. Their eyes were constantly trained on a faint “Ferris wheel in the sky.” This was Elysium, the pinnacle of human existence, where poverty was non-existent, fatal diseases were cured and mankind shared the fruits of all things good.
Throughout the film, there were constant vows and aspirations to “get my ticket to Elysium.” To be sure, there were attempts, mostly unsuccessful. Any would-be encroachers were mercilessly eliminated. What stood out the most was the superior attitude harbored by Elysium residents toward those living on Earth. It was as if they were some subspecies of humanity! It was clearly reminiscent of Hillary Clinton’s reference to Trump supporters as “a basket of deplorables.”
Washington, D.C. may be our real-life Elysium! When considering the throngs of career politicians, entrenched bureaucrats, lobbyists, influence peddlers and members of a corrupt media establishment, you have it pegged. Six of the ten most affluent counties in America surround our nation’s capital.
A Different Story in Other Parts of America
Yesterday, while strolling through a crowded Kroger supermarket in Richmond, Kentucky I couldn’t help but notice the consistently sad looks on the faces of mostly unhealthy shoppers. The reality of Joe Biden’s “inflation tax” has forced many American families to compromise healthy foods for foods that fill up their stomachs. It isn’t like 2020 when everyone seemed to be smiling from the inside of their new car! Today, many are losing their health insurance coverage. There doesn’t seem to be as many good jobs as advertised.
Somehow, we have the resources to fight a war on another continent!
When Donald Trump called out many NATO members for not contributing their fair share, he was lambasted by most of Europe and a large part of the D.C. establishment including members of his own party. Did he have a point? Could we be applying support for a part of the world that didn’t make its own defense a priority, while we were allowing our own country to deteriorate in front of our eyes? Looks that way.
Revolution not Reform
Give 38-year-old, Vivek Ramaswamy credit for “calling a spade a spade.” To alter what has become an “administrative dictatorship,” we must acknowledge that we face, in Ramaswamy’s words, “a revolutionary moment.” As President Trump painfully learned, the “swamp is hopelessly deep.” It cannot be tweaked or reformed. Only through the destruction of the administrative state can America return to the inspiration introduced by our founders.
The next question is, “But how?”
Even if the feckless Biden Administration doesn’t get us in a war before year’s end and Trump reclaims the presidency this November, the task would seem insurmountable. We currently have “red state” Neo cons who think that sending Americans to their deaths in Ukraine is a noble endeavor!
We need a “game-changing event” that will effectively change the dynamics of the discussion.
Forget “Texas v. White!”
2023 saw a movement that would unite the six New England states with the four Canadian Atlantic provinces to form the nation of “New England.” The idea behind the concept was to make immigration easier for people living in the British Isles. Many New Englanders have relatives currently living there and would relish a more simplified immigration path to the new world.
Roughly 93% of residents in this part of North America can trace their ancestry to England, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Irelands and Wales. It is the least ethnically diverse region of North America. The area is comparable in size to Texas. The population is almost the same as Florida.
CNN and MSNBC immediately called the movement, “white supremacist.” On the “other side of the pond,” it is seen as logical. As one Welch national expressed, “England is overcrowded. There are millions who would jump at the chance to immigrate to a nearby, English speaking country.”
We might add, “millions of English speakers with trades and advanced degrees!”
There are those who would equate such a development to secession. They would remind that the SCOTUS ruled on secession in “Texas versus White” in 1869, affirming that “the union was indestructible.” Of course, there were others who concluded that 1895’s “Plessy versus Ferguson’s, separate but equal” was the right course. Ditto for “Dred Scott” in 1857.
This is a “now moment.” We cannot return to the Reconstruction era for our answer.
50 Becomes 44
The loss of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont would equate to losing 11 Democrat held Senate seats. The 12th seat, currently occupied by Neo con, Susan Collins, will likely go blue when she retires. Republicans would immediately have a super majority in the Senate.
That Canada will eventually splinter is a mathematical certainty. This would be the first piece. Look for Quebec to quickly follow the Atlantic provinces lead. Expect the United States to be beneficiary for more defections. For now, the long-awaited chance to right things will be at hand. It begins with “elimination of 75% of the administrative state,” as Ramaswamy projected.
Don’t Stress Over Europe
To hear NATO chief, Jens Stoltenberg’s assessment of Ukraine, it’s “a defining moment for Democracy.” It’s also a question of NATO countries enjoying free healthcare and 32-hour work weeks, while America picked up much of their defense tabs! For too long, American workers have subsidized European allies whose peoples enjoyed better standards of living than our own.
The Russia specter is about “Faith Based National Populism” overpowering “Secular, Global Socialism.” The latter is already in the process of being rejected throughout Europe. Signs are evident everywhere. Especially in France, Germany and Italy. As in America, the “open borders” overture has soured. Those unwilling to assimilate are finding that they are increasingly unwanted.
