At this point, it’s almost as if Sen. Mitt Romney (*R-UT) revels in being seen as a horse’s ass… then again, it seems to be the only time he can call attention to himself.
The squishy Republican was speaking with CNN’s Manu Raju outside the Capitol on Tuesday and decided to pass judgment on the character of Donald Trump when asked about the hush money trial underway in New York City, disregarding the former president’s denial that he had sex with porn star Stormy Daniels.
“I think everybody has made their own assessment of President Trump’s character,” Romney said. “And so far as I know, you don’t pay someone $130,000 not to have sex with you.”

CNN anchor Brianna Keilar was highly impressed with the liberal Republican’s remarks, which may help explain why Romney was approached about the trial in the first place.
“Wow, that was Republican Senator Mitt Romney, uh, what a soundbite,” Keilar said.
Former Trump attorney and “fixer” Michael Cohen struck a deal to pay Daniels $130,000 ahead of the 2016 election in exchange for the rights to her story and a non-disclosure agreement — Daniels had told 60 Minutes in 2006 that she met with Trump at his hotel suite at a celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe and they had sex.
Trump denies the affair ever took place and insists he “did absolutely nothing wrong” — of course, convincing a partisan Manhattan jury of that is a whole other matter.
Daniels also denied having sex with Trump in a statement in 2018, although she later said it was a lie and that she felt forced to sign it because of a non-disclosure agreement she had signed.
As for Romney, it’s safe to social media users were not impressed… here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
Not a “hush money” trial. It’s an election interference trial. Why not learn what the subject is about, so you can get the nomenclature correct?

After this put down, he chugged a glass of whole milk, got into his Rolls-Royce, and drove away.
