Wild video captures truck plowing into crowd during LA street takeover, onlookers’ sad reaction

A wild video of a street takeover in Los Angeles speaks volumes about life in contemporary America and the infatuation with attention in the age of social media.

In the footage shown live on the Kick streaming platform, the action begins when a silver pickup truck is spinning donuts around a barrel with fire roaring out of it as a huge group of people are gathered around to check out the City of Angels’ popular spectator sport.

While driving in circles, the driver loses control, careening off course and plowing into the crowd that was gathered on the street.

What happened next is a slice of Americana circa 2024, a nation of internet-addicted zombies, as people are seen running toward the potential carnage, not to help with rendering emergency medical aid to potential victims, but to record the aftermath on their cellphones which they are seen holding aloft as they sprint toward the crash site.

“Oh my God! Oh my God!” One person is heard exclaiming amid the chaos. “It hit like three people,” a man says as he heads in the direction of the crash.

It is unclear whether there were any injuries during the incident which took place on Friday night at the intersection of Normandie Avenue and West Gage Avenue during the street takeover, the name for gatherings that have become increasingly frequent in the crime-ridden Democrat-controlled metropolis where the informal events which are also called sideshows could break out at any time on public streets, often becoming violent.

A clip of the crash, which was also posted to the X platform, drew the reaction of users, some of whom remarked on the priorities of those who rushed in.

In another LA street takeover last week, a jeep is doused with gasoline and set ablaze at Crenshaw Boulevard and West 63rd Street at around 3:20 a.m. Saturday, the Los Angeles Police Department said. An estimated 50 vehicles were involved. No arrests were made and no injuries were reported.

“The Los Angeles Police Department’s Street Racing Task Force consists of specially trained officers who are tasked with combatting illegal racing, sideshows, and spectating that has been creating chaos in numerous communities around the city,” the LAPD states on its website of the special unit dealing with illegal racing.

Last month, the task force announced the arrest of a man “believed to be one of the largest street takeover organizers in southern California.”

“On February 7, 2024, around 5:00 a.m., the Street Racing Task Force conducted a residential search warrant in the City of Paramount along with elements from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Paramount Station. The operation was successful in locating and arresting a suspect believed to be one of the largest street takeover organizers in Southern California. With over 70,000 followers on social media, this organizer has coordinated events throughout Southern California that have not only resulted in large-scale takeovers but also smash-and-grab robberies, vehicle thefts, and other violent crimes including murder,” the LAPD said in a news release.
