Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) delivered the Republican response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union on Thursday night, in what many saw as a battle for the female vote.
Sitting at her kitchen table, Britt, a 42-year-old mother of two, called Biden a “permanent politician who has actually been in office for longer than I’ve even been alive,” as she detailed how the American Dream has become a “nightmare” for many families, commenting on the crisis at the border, Biden’s reckless spending that “dug our economy into a hole and sent the cost-of-living through the roof,” 40-year high inflation and “the highest credit card debt in history.”
“One thing was clear: President Biden just doesn’t get it. He’s out of touch. Under his administration, families are worse off. Our communities are less safe, and our country is less secure,” the GOP senator said.
“Tonight, the American family needs to have a tough conversation because the truth is we are all worried about the future of our nation. The country we know and love seems to be slipping away, and it feels like the next generation will have fewer opportunities and less freedom than we did,” Britt said.
“But right now, the American Dream has turned into a nightmare for so many families,” she added. “The true, unvarnished State of our Union begins and ends with this: Our families are hurting. Our country can do better.”
As for Biden’s speech, in effect, it was a test to see if the frail, 81-year-old, cognitively declining president could actually stand for an hour-plus and read a speech from a teleprompter — despite the now-common slurring of his words and occasional incoherency, Democrats celebrated Biden checking the box. With or without an assist from Big Pharma.
Conservative commentator Jesse Kelly summed up the SOTU address well, writing on X, “REMINDER: This speech isn’t for you. It’s not supposed to be for you. That single Democrat woman in your life who’s on 13 anti-depressants, that’s who this speech is for. The true beating heart of the Democrat Party. They eat this crap up.”

Presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who was responding live to Biden’s address on Truth Social, praised Britt’s rebuttal.
He posted, “Katie Britt was a GREAT contrast to an Angry, and obviously very Disturbed, ‘President.’ She was compassionate and caring, especially concerning Women and Women’s Issues. Her conversation on Migrant Crime was powerful and insightful. Great job Katie!
The response was promising in many precincts on the right who understood that suburban women were the target — though Britt may need to work on the art of summoning emotion.
