Former President Donald Trump continues to lead President Joe Biden by several points in the battleground state of Georgia which he won in 2016 but lost in 2020, according to a Wednesday poll.
Trump held 48% support among registered voters in Georgia compared to Biden’s 42%, which is one point up from the president’s share in January, an Emerson College poll found. The former president led among every age group and white voters, while Independents and black individuals supported Biden.
A majority of voters said that Biden’s age and Trump’s indictments bring them pause in voting for either of them in November, but individuals within their respective parties are less concerned about those factors, according to the poll.
The survey also found that the economy was top of mind to Georgians at 32%, which Biden continues to receive lagging poll numbers on. This group of voters supported Trump over Biden 43% to 22%.
Other concerns were healthcare and crime at 13% each, followed by housing affordability, immigration, and education at 9%, respectively. The former president also led Biden among those who said crime and immigration were leading issues.
Only 39% of Georgia voters approved of Biden’s job performance, the poll found.
Trump’s lead grew to 10 points against Vice President Kamala Harris and 19 points against California Gov. Gavin Newsom in hypothetical head-to-head matchups, the poll found.
In 2016, Trump beat Hillary Clinton in Georgia by 51.3% to 45.6% but narrowly lost the battleground state to Biden the following cycle by less than one point.
The RealClearPolitics average for a 2024 general election rematch in Georgia, based on polls conducted between Oct. 22 and Feb. 16, indicates Trump is leading Biden by nearly seven points. The former president is also advantaged in swing states like Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, Nevada, and North Carolina.
The Emerson College poll surveyed 1,000 registered voters in Georgia between Feb. 14 and Feb. 16 with a margin of error of plus or minus 3%.
Neither the Trump nor Biden campaign immediately responded to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.
