Michigan urges citizens to help house, school and support migrants to build a more ‘inclusive’ state

The state of Michigan is reaching out to residents for assistance with the illegal alien invasion, hoping to find volunteers who will offer to help the new arrivals with housing.

In joining the trend that’s already catching on in other blue states, the Department of Labor and Economic Development says that those willing to pitch in will have to commit for at least 90 days as a part of the program to acclimate the foreigners to their new surroundings.

In partnering with Welcome Corps, the U.S. State Department-backed program to assist Americans in sponsoring migrants, the state is urging those who are interested to meet the new arrivals at the airport, help find housing, enroll kids in school and assist with finding employment.

“Programs like the Welcome Corps advance the Office of Global Michigan’s mission to make Michigan the home for opportunity for our immigrant, refugee and ethnic communities,” Poppy Hernandez who is Michigan’s Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer and Director of the Office of Global Michigan said in a statement. “Expanded refugee resettlement pathways empower more Michiganders to support our state’s growing refugee population and build a more welcoming and inclusive Michigan for all.”

Options available to good samaritans are to sponsor the migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua or Venezuela through the federal government’s CHNV program and also to take in individuals or families fleeing from wartorn Ukraine.

The agency is also looking for people who will be willing to spread the word to others.

“Become an ambassador and share your sponsorship experience in the community,” the Office of Global Michigan says on its website. “Allies and recruiters can support by being welcoming, recruiting, volunteering, donating, or mentoring refugees.”

Officials in other Democrat-controlled states have been calling for citizens to take the illegals into their own homes as the ongoing flood of impoverished foreign nationals has swamped existing shelters, forcing local governments to open areas inside of airports as improvised homeless shelters.

For example, in Massachusetts, the programs are so far along that volunteers who offer to take the migrants into their homes can expect delivery faster than the average pizza.

“The Office of Global Michigan’s goal is to make Michigan the home for opportunity for our immigrant, refugee and ethnic communities,” Hernandez said on the website. “With expanded refugee resettlement pathways, everyday Michiganders can provide refuge and build a state where people are welcomed with open arms.”

According to its website: The Welcome Corps is a new service opportunity for Americans to welcome refugees seeking freedom and safety and, in turn, make a difference in their own communities.

“Together, sponsor groups welcome refugee newcomers by securing and preparing initial housing, greeting refugee newcomers at the airport, enrolling children in school, and helping adults to find employment. You already have the most important skill you need to succeed—knowledge about daily life in your community. Experts will be there to guide you each step of the way,” the Welcome Corps website reads.
