Top Dem senator suggests U.S. troops will be on the front lines if Ukraine doesn’t get its billions

Sen. Chris Coons, a Democrat, is facing explosive backlash for suggesting that U.S. troops will be sent to the front lines in Ukraine or elsewhere unless Congress does what he wants.

What he wants, of course, is for the Republican-led House to pass a $95 billion foreign aid package that’d bless Ukraine with billions in additional aid.

“In the next front against Russia, it will be Americans on the front lines,” he said Friday at the Munich Security Conference, according to CNBC.

“We are best off investing in the Ukrainians who are fighting bravely for their own freedom than allowing [Russian President Vladimir] Putin the opportunity to spread further chaos and violence across Europe,” he added.

He believes without evidence that if Ukraine were to fall to Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin would then pursue invasions of other countries like Poland, Finland, etc.

“If we don’t stop Putin in Ukraine, he will next be attacking NATO allies of the United States,” he explained.

Responding to his remarks, critics rushed to urge him to send his own children off to war first.

“Threats, threats and more threats. I hope Rep. Luna’s bill gets passed and YOU who want this have to serve on the FRONT LINES!!! That would be glorious!” one critic added.

Introduced earlier this month by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican, the bill mentioned by the critic would force members of Congress “who advocate for providing military support for Ukraine” to go to the front lines themselves.

In an interview this week with Forbes, Luna said she was inspired to draft the bill after hearing Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat, warn that Americans will be fighting in Europe “in a few years” unless Congress passes additional funding for Ukraine.

“That’s a disgusting opinion to have,” she said. “Also, Schumer doesn’t have any skin in the game. It’s not his son, it’s not his daughter going over there. So I think that if you’re going to do that, you should put your money where your mouth is.”

Hilariously enough, Luna’s bill is even named after Schumer.

It’s called the Senators Can Help Underpin Military Engagement and Readiness Act, or the SCHUMER Act.

During her Forbes interview, she also pushed back on the suggestion from President Joe Biden, also a Democrat, that anyone who opposes further funding Ukraine’s war is a Russian asset.

“President Biden didn’t have any opposition when his family received money from a Ukrainian oligarch in Burisma, so if that somehow makes me a Russian asset, I would turn around and say well he’s the one that’s accepting money from Ukraine and from frankly Russian oligarchs and their wives,” she said.

“And so when you have that type of information going out there, you have him really using his megaphone in order to throw off the American people because he doesn’t have any accountability for what’s happening with the money that we are sending to Ukraine, not only is insulting but it’s a lie,” she added.

All this comes as the president is ramping up pressure on Congress to act in the wake of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny’s death which many suspect was a murder ordered by Putin.

“This tragedy reminds us of the stakes of the moment,” the president said Friday. “History is watching the House of Representatives. The failure to support Ukraine at this critical moment will never be forgotten.”
