Three officers were injured after the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to a shooting in the nation’s Capitol Wednesday.

MPD said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that it had responded to a shooting on the 5000 block of Hanna Place SE and asked media to stay away from the scene for safety reasons. Minutes later the department announced three officers had suffered “non-life-threatening injuries” and had been taken from the scene to the hospital.

“Three officers have been injured. All three suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The scene remains active,” the post reads.

The post did not elaborate on the type of injuries the officers sustained, their identities, or whether or not a suspect was in custody. Police were reportedly responding to calls regarding an individual barricaded in a house, resulting in the lockdown of several schools in the area, according to sources that spoke to 4Wahsington, an NBC News affiliate.

Three police officers were reportedly shot, while a fourth sustained minor injuries, according to 4 Washington. Some were taken to the hospital in police cars, while others were transported via ambulance. Crime in the nation’s Capitol spiked by 39% in 2023, with robberies up by 67%, vehicle theft up by 82%, and homicides rising by 35%, according to police statistics.

The police department did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
