Bill Maher, the snarky host of HBO’s “Real Time,” reluctantly acknowledged to his audience on Friday that it was time to talk about an issue “I was hoping we wouldn’t have to be talking about” at this stage of the 2024 election game: “Biden’s brain.”
The left-leaning comedian offered a biting rundown of Biden’s bad week, beginning with the announcement that he’ll be skipping the traditional Super Bowl interview.
“We’re not asking him to go on ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ you know,” Maher said.

He then turned to Special Counsel Robert Hur’s damning report that declined to indict President Biden for “willfully” retaining and disclosing classified materials. Hur’s reasoning primarily centered on the commander-in-chief’s declining cognitive functions. Biden, the prosecutor stated, would be viewed by the jury as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
Maher likened Hur’s report to former FBI Director James Comey’s letter before the 2016 election in which he detailed Hillary Clinton’s lawbreaking ways but declined to recommend she be prosecuted for them.
“It was very much like the Comey letter,” Maher said. “[Hur] said, ‘No. No criminal charges,’ but then he spent 300 pages calling Biden ‘Mr. Magoo,’ basically.”
“I don’t want to say this thing is loaded,” he added, “but the final line of the report was, ‘I’m Donald Trump and I approve this message.'”
The president, Maher said, “is not helping his own cause.”
As the host noted that, in one week, Biden confused French President Emmanuel Macron with former French President François Mitterrand, who died in 1996, and twice mixed up German Chancellors Angela Merkel and Helmut Kohl.
During his disastrous press conference to address his mental acuity, Biden blundered again, mixing up the leaders of Egypt and Mexico.
Speaking to guest Bob Costas, Maher recalled that Biden had “hinted” when he ran in 2020 that he would be a one-term president.
“I see myself as a bridge,” he quoted Biden as saying, adding that the bridge is “collapsing.”
“I read that as one term,” the host told Costas.
The Democrats, he stated, could ditch Biden and replace him at the DNC convention.
“I guess the question now is, ‘Is it too late?’ and I don’t think it is,” Maher said. “Because I still think you can do it at the convention.”
“No one gives a f**k what you do at the convention,” he said to a round of applause. “They’d be thrilled if you did it the day before the election.”

Not everyone believes it would be that simple.
“Strip Biden of the nomination after he sweeps the primaries and strip the first female and first black VP of her job and see how much Democratic voters ‘gives a f**k what you do at a convention,'” replied one user on X.
