Odd how everything is about color for those who spend so much time decrying racism.
In what may be mistaken as a display of black privilege, given that no other race would likely get away with it, New York City Mayor Eric Adams publicly boasted about the heavy representation of non-white staff in his office.
After introducing a host of deputy mayors at a meeting, all women of color, Adams spoke proudly of the lack of diversity in his vast administration that New Yorkers apparently don’t mind funding.
“First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, Deputy Mayor… Stand up, stand up. They need to see you,” the Democrat mayor beamed. “Deputy Mayor Williams-Isom, Deputy Mayor Meera Joshi, Deputy Mayor Almanzar, Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer. Have you ever seen this much chocolate leading the city of New York?!”

Adams claimed his administration represented the city itself, though black Americans only make up 20 percent of the population.
He then compared himself to Jesus.
“Jesus walked in the temple, he saw them doing wrong in the temple. He did what?” Adams asked.
“He turned the table over,” someone called out.
“I went to City Hall to turn the table over. First woman police commissioner of color. First Spanish-speaking police commissioner. First Spanish-speaking correction commissioner,” Adams declared.
He could have just hung a sign, “Whites need not apply.”
The reference to chocolate brings to mind Ray Nagin, the former mayor of New Orleans who led the city to near destruction during Hurricane Katrina and would later be sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after being convicted on twenty of twenty-one charges of wire fraud, bribery, and money laundering.
“We as black people, it’s time, it’s time for us to come together. It’s time for us to rebuild a New Orleans, the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans. I don’t care what people are saying Uptown or wherever they are. This city will be chocolate at the end of the day,” Nagan said at a 2006 Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration.
