Liberal PAC to spend millions boosting Biden, congressional Dems in effort to curb veterans’ support for Trump in 2024

Daily Caller News Foundation

A liberal political action committee (PAC) is set to launch a $45 million effort to support President Joe Biden and congressional Democrats while attempting to chip away at veterans’ support for former President Donald Trump in 2024, the New York Times reported.

The former president beat Biden among veterans by 10 points in 2020, representing a 6-point drop in support from the previous cycle, according to CNN’s exit polling. VoteVets will take aim at Trump over the Jan. 6 Capitol riot in its advertising, as well as his public feuds with military leaders, the group’s chairman told the NYT.

“There’s political ramifications to all this,” Jon Soltz, co-founder and chairman of the group, told the NYT. “There’s no other way to explain the disrespect to Gold Star families and the erratic behavior and the attacks on our law enforcement at the Capitol — these are values things.”

The PAC will primarily focus its push in battleground states, targeting active-duty military families and veterans through a $15 million effort, according to the outlet. VoteVets’ efforts will include polling, focus group research, mail and digital campaigns, and broadcast ads.

Other groups have recently unveiled similar efforts to support Biden and congressional Democrats.

Future Forward, the super PAC supporting Biden’s reelection campaign, is making a $250 million ad buy, according to the NYT. MoveOn, another left-leaning organization, announced a $32 million effort on Jan. 26 to help reelect Biden and congressional Democrats.

“While all these other groups focus on base turnout, somebody has to be able to focus on cutting losses with some of these core groups,” Soltz told the NYT. “Elections aren’t just won by running up the score, it’s by cutting losses, and Biden’s success largely came by cutting losses in this community.”

VoteVets will also support vulnerable Democratic Sens. Jon Tester of Montana, Jacky Rosen of Nevada, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, as well as Reps. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, Ruben Gallego of Arizona, and Andy Kim of New Jersey’s respective Senate bids, according to the NYT.

The PAC is also backing House Democratic candidates in battleground districts, as well as those who are veterans or have national security experience, the outlet reported.

VoteVets has brought in $5.9 million this cycle, while it spent $4.2 million during the same time frame, according to Federal Election Commission filings. The PAC entered 2024 with roughly $10.7 million cash on hand.

Neither VoteVets nor the Trump campaign immediately responded to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.
