President Joe Biden intends to shift the blame for high food costs to grocery store chains, demanding that they make price cuts with his reelection hopes on the line.
The propaganda about “Bidenomics” isn’t working for the simple reason that Americans get a reminder of how their purchasing power has plummeted since January 20, 2021, the day that Biden was sworn into office, with each and every trip to the grocery store, a very simple connection to make that has left Team Biden perplexed and desperate.
So the strategy to duck responsibility for the persistent inflation by blaming grocery chains will be rolled out in the coming weeks, and the deeply unpopular leader previewed the White House’s latest gaslighting scheme in remarks during a recent speech in South Carolina.
“Inflation is coming down. It’s now lower in America than any other major economy in the world,” Biden claimed. “The cost of eggs, milk, chicken, gas, and so many other essential items have come down.”
“But for all we’ve done to bring prices down, there are still too many corporations in America ripping people off: price gouging, junk fees, greedflation, shrinkflation,” he added. “You see that article about the Snickers bars?”
“Well, it’s going to stop. Americans, we’re tired of being played for suckers,” Biden said to applause. “And that’s why we’re going to keep these guys — keep on them and get the prices down.”
According to a New York Times report, “Aides say those comments are a preview of more pressure to come against grocery chains and other companies that are maintaining higher-than-usual profit margins after a period of rapid price growth.”
It’s the sort of scapegoating that has been used by the likes of crypto-communist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to great effect and it allows Biden to play to emotions by passing the buck to grocery retailers who do not influence factors such as supply chain issues, the recent Avian flu outbreak that sent egg prices spiking, the law of supply and demand, and inflation in general. But it just may sell with the “suckers” who Democrats desperately need to appeal to to keep the White House locked down by the party.
“Let me be clear to any corporation that hasn’t brought their prices back down even as inflation has come down: It’s time to stop the price gouging,” Biden said on X, formerly Twitter, in November 2023. “Give American consumers a break.”

While prices have somewhat declined, they are still excessively high.
“Since the start of 2021, food prices have gone up 33.7%, shelter costs went up 18.7% and energy prices increased by 32.8%. Moody’s Analytics also reported that Americans spent $211 more a month compared to the same time last year,” according to calculations by Fox Business. “Overall, Americans are now paying on average $1,020 more each month compared with the same time two years ago.”
And most Americans get a reminder of “Bidenomics” when in the grocery store checkout line, which isn’t going to change any time before the election, according to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.

“Politically, though, big grocers make the most appealing target for Mr. Biden. Aides are discussing how he can ramp up pressure on large chains in the weeks and months to come,” according to The New York Times.
“President Biden has made clear that as input prices fall, corporations should pass those savings on to consumers,” White House spokesperson Michael Kikukawa said this week.
It’s probably only a matter of time until Biden and his propagandists claim that inflation is racist too.
