Egypt shows us how it’s done; Mac daddy of a border wall draws raves on social media

When it comes to a nation controlling its border, Egypt seems to be a step ahead of most when it comes to a newly reinforced section of the Rafah border between Gaza and Egypt.

A photo making the rounds online media showcases a heavy application of coiled razor wire along an exceptionally high wall. Of course, the difference between Egypt and the United States is the American left, which means Egypt is not accused of hating brown people and relentlessly attacked in the courts and beyond to ensure a wide-open border.

As with everything regarding the Middle East, things are a lot more complicated along the Rafah border than a single photo can depict — the border crossing at the town of Rafah is the only checkpoint not controlled by Israel, according to CNN. It’s also the only point of exit for Palestinians looking to flee Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Saturday that the border between Egypt and Gaza “must” be closed, insisting that the war with the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas would not be considered finished until the Philadelphi Corridor, a 14km strip of land that serves as a buffer zone on the border between Egypt and Gaza, is closed, CNN reported.

“We’ll destroy Hamas, we’ll demilitarize Gaza, and military equipment and other deadly weapons will continue to enter this southern opening, so of course we need to close it,” Netanyahu said.

Egypt has warned against any Israeli military operations in the corridor and insists that it remains in full control of its borders.

Still, as the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words… here’s a quick sampling of responses to the photo of the fortified wall, as seen on X:
