White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was confronted over a group of mutinous campaign aides slamming President Biden for “complicity” in the deaths of “over 20,000 Palestinians,” and a Biden appointee resigning over Biden’s support for Israel defending itself against the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas.
At Thursday’s press briefing, a reporter asked, “What’s the White House’s reaction to members of President Biden’s administration protesting or in the case of somebody at the Department of Education resigning in protest against the president’s policies on Israel?”
“Look, we’ve spoken to this before and what we’ll say is that people have the right to voice their opinion. We understand that these are times where, you know, people have — it’s an emotional time, and we understand that,” Jean-Pierre responded. “As it relates to — I think your — the Department of Education, I know they put out a statement, so I would refer you to the Department of Education.”

“But that is something that we get. Like, people have opinions, they have thoughts,” she continued. “These are incredibly, you know, personal times for people. Right? But I’m just not going to say much more on each resignation or each — comments that people may have. I will just, on that particular one, I would refer you to the Department of Education.”
Tariq Habash, a policy adviser in the Education Department’s Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development, accused Biden of endangering Palestinians and accused the Israeli government of ethnic cleansing in a resignation letter to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona
Billed in the media as a “senior Biden education adviser,” Habash wrote, “As a Palestinian-American — in fact, the only Palestinian-American political appointee at the Department of Education — I bring a critical and underrepresented perspective to the ongoing work on equity and justice.”
“But now, the actions of the Biden-Harris Administration have put millions of innocent lives in danger, most immediately for the 2.3 million Palestinian civilians living in Gaza who remain under continuous assault and ethnic cleansing by the Israeli government. Therefore, I must resign,” he added.
A group of 17 anonymous campaign staffers wrote a letter to the president on Wednesday pressuring him to change his support for Israel.
“As your staff, we believe it is both a moral and electoral imperative for you to publicly call for a cessation of violence. Complicity in the death of over 20,000 Palestinians, 8,200 of whom are children, simply cannot be justified,” the aides wrote.
