California Governor Gavin Newsom’s state continues to serve as a testing ground for policies that he would likely roll out on a national level if he ever becomes president, and taxpayer-subsidized health insurance for illegal aliens is set to go live on Monday.
On January 1, 2024, California will become the first state in the nation to offer coverage to undocumented immigrants of all ages under the Medi-Cal program, the state’s version of Medicaid, the federal program that provides health insurance to those with low incomes.
Starting next week, an estimated 700,000 non-American adults between the ages of 26 and 49 will be eligible for the new health benefits which will likely only entice more foreigners to relocate to the Golden State which is already a magnet for illegal aliens.

The expanded eligibility for the state’s health insurance program was made possible when Newsom and the legislature struck a budget deal earlier this year, a big win for open borders Democrats who cheered the increased burden on taxpayers.
“This historic investment speaks to California’s commitment to health care as a human right,” State Sen. María Elena Durazo, a Los Angeles Democrat said in a May statement after the agreement between the governor and lawmakers.
“In California, we believe everyone deserves access to quality, affordable health care coverage – regardless of income or immigration status,” Newsom’s office told ABC News. “Through this expansion, we’re making sure families and communities across California are healthier, stronger, and able to get the care they need when they need it.”
The additional burden on taxpayers comes at a time of growing financial trouble for Newsom’s state which is already facing a a $68 billion deficit in the new fiscal year as a result of a decline in tax revenue with wealthy people and businesses fleeing California in droves to escape onerous taxes and the rampant crime that has been enabled by the progressive war on police.
It isn’t helpful in the retention of productive residents when the state continues to implement lunatic fringe left-wing policies like the recent approval of rules allowing for the use of recycled toilet water for drinking purposes, yet another reason to get the hell out of Newsom’s leftist dystopia.

“This budget investment reflects California’s values of inclusion and fairness and should be a model for the rest of the nation,” Sarah Dar, the director of Health and Public Benefits Policy at the California Immigrant Policy Center, said earlier this year. “All Californians, regardless of their age or where they were born, should have access to basic necessities like food and fair, steady wages.”
“Medi-Cal is already strained by serving 14.6 million Californians – more than a third of the state’s population. Adding 764,000 more individuals to the system will certainly exacerbate current provider access problems,” the minority Senate GOP caucus said in a statement last year.
