Orlando Airport celebrates Festivus — politely asks travelers not to use prop as a stripper pole

The Orlando International Airport set out to have a little Christmas fun during the busy holiday travel season, setting up a Festivus pole over the weekend for weary travelers.

Festivus is a secular holiday that is celebrated on December 23 in response to the pressures and commercialism of the Christmas season. The holiday was featured in a 1997 episode of Seinfeld, with the character Frank Constanza, played by the late actor Jerry Stiller, explaining it includes a Festivus pole, the airing of grievances, and feats of strength.

Of course, considering that this is the year 2023, Orlando Airport saw fit to caution travelers not to use the Festivus pole as a stripper pole: “Please do not climb on the Festivus Pole. The Festivus Pole is not a Dancing Pole.”

“A #Festivus for the rest of us! If you’re passing through today & want to celebrate the day in traditional fashion while your meatloaf’s on the way, stop by our Festivus pole, take a pic & air your grievances (no feats of strength, pls),” the airport’s official X account tweeted. “Level 5 by the Train Station. ⌚Until 6pm.”

The rest of the message is seen in a close-up of the sign: “For those that celebrate today’s date, please join us for the ‘Festivus for the rest of us.’ Please use the comment box for the Airing of Grievances. We ask for no demonstrations of Feats of Strength at the airport.”

When asked by a social media user what is Festivus without feats of strength, the answer came quick: “An aluminum pole, grievances, meatloaf, and a miracle!”

The House of Mouse consumer service Mickey Central was certainly impressed:

Here’s a quick sampling of other responses to the story, as seen on X:
