Disney’s reported plan to reboot new ‘X Files’ met with HEAVY skepticism

Disney seems to be flailing about, desperately searching for any success after dismal box office returns and declining attendance at its theme parks over the summer, even entertaining an X-Files comeback despite its “recent lackluster revival.”

That’s according to IGN, which cited Bloomberg to report that “the popular 90s sci-fi show is in the running for what sounds like a reboot, with Disney eyeing a ‘new version’ from Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.”

It’s not clear at this point what the project may look like.

“After 11 seasons and two movies, The X-Files stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny have put in plenty of time as Agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder. Whether or not they return in the upcoming show remains to be seen,” IGN reported.

Anderson is skeptical about a return, saying there would have to be some major changes to lure her back.

“It just feels like such an old idea. I’ve done it, I did it for so many years, and it also ended on such an unfortunate note,” she said, according to the outlet. “In order to even begin to have that conversation [about another season] there would need to be a whole new set of writers and the baton would need to be handed on for it to feel like it was new and progressive. So yeah, it’s very much in the past.”

The X-Files originally debuted back in 1993 and featured FBI agents Mulder and Scully pursuing unsolved paranormal cases.

Disney CEO Bob Iger recently acknowledged that the company took a wrong turn by embracing social justice causes and needed to get back the art of entertainment, but social media users are skeptical — it seems Iger has much work to do to restore Disney’s once impeccable reputation.
