Woman claims green energy push resulted in her elderly parents being scammed out of $60,000

The Biden administration’s rush to push the nation into the “sustainable” energy future has opened up the door for scammers seeking to cash in on the Green New Deal gold rush, some of whom will inevitably prey on older people.

Fox News’ Jesse Watters is on the case when it comes to “shady” solar companies and this week on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” he talked to two women whose elderly parents were the apparent victims of troubling sales practices. allegedly being hustled with the solar power snake oil along with promises that purchasing and installing the costly equipment would be practically free to them.

One concerned daughter told the host that she believes that her 86-year-old mother who suffers from dementia fell victim to a scam when she was talked into financing $60,000 worth of solar panels.

“It first started out as a sales call where the salesman from the solar company came and just talked to her and said, you know, ‘we can set you up for solar. You’ll be able to get it for practically nothing. You’ll be able to get a tax credit from both state and federal,'” Patsy Brownson who was one of hundreds of people who texted Watters about potential rip-offs after a Monday segment told the host.

“And basically, it just started out as a sales call saying you know, here’s everything that we’ll do for you, we’ll set up the solar panels and everything’s great, and you know, we’ll make sure everything goes okay,” she said.

“And then, basically what happened was in December 2021, I got a phone call from my mother and she’s absolutely panicked, she’s crying,” Brownson continued. “Basically, she got a letter from the funding company or the lending company saying, ‘Welcome aboard. You have a loan with us for over $60,000 for over 25 years.’”

“My mother says, ‘I did? …How did I do that?’” Brownson recalled, telling Watters that she confronted the lending company on how her mom, who is on a fixed income could qualify for such a significant loan amount but was told that they couldn’t disclose that information.

“Oh of course not,” Watters said. “They’re not allowed to tell you anything right, after they fleece your family,” telling her to stay in touch with the show’s producers so they can keep tabs on the situation, while also encouraging viewers to continue texting because “we’re gonna rain hell on these solar panel companies.”

“It’s a huge scam,” he added. “They’re preying on older people, poor people with dementia. It’s gotta stop, and Joe Biden’s financing it.”

“We recognize that selecting a solar provider is a significant decision for families, and we strive to make sure all customers are fully informed and comfortable before purchasing our products. This situation was no different. The customer’s son was present with her during the initial consultation, the contracting process and the installation. We have worked with the family and look forward to reengaging them to find the best path forward for our customer,” a spokesperson for ADT Solar, formerly known as SunPro, told Fox News Digital.
