The View’s Sarah Haines cites ‘God’s will’ to say pro-lifers should skip cancer treatment

“The View” co-host Sara Haines is facing backlash for arguing that pro-life Americans must abstain from cancer treatments or be labeled hypocrites.

Haines issued the disgusting, deplorable argument while responding Friday to a recent abortion ruling in Texas in which the state’s Supreme Court temporarily blocked a woman from obtaining an emergency abortion.

“[Kate] Cox is 20 weeks pregnant. Her unborn baby was diagnosed with a fatal genetic condition and she says complications in her pregnancy are putting her health at risk,” CNN reported on Saturday.

Haines was not pleased.

Listen:

“This example should be one of the easy ones because this actually also risked her future fertility, and she wants to grow her family more, and of course the baby is going to pass — all those things,” she said.

“But, it’s also not a universal truth when life begins. One example is there are Jewish women suing in Kentucky because according to Jewish law, a fetus is regarded as part of a mother’s body until it begins to leave the womb. People aren’t doing this lightly,” she added.

Taking aim at pro-lifers who believe pregnancies are “God’s will,” she then attempted to apply the principle in reverse to attack said pro-lifers.

“[I]f it’s God’s will on the way in, it should be God’s will on the way out too. That brings into question, are you taking heart attack medication? Are you treating your cancer? Are you dying when you said you should?” she said.

“Because if we’re going to argue about life in, then let’s be honest about life out. Don’t go to the hospital if you’re hurting because it is God’s will. Like, I don’t like the inconsistencies and the hypocrisy when people weaponize religion on this issue,” she added.

Critics immediately pounced, with LifeNews.com leading the way with a fact-check tweet about her “universal truth” claim:

Other critics were far harsher with Haines.

Regarding Cox, the Texas woman whose abortion has been blocked, the ruling by the Texas Supreme Court came a day after a judge issued a temporary restraining order allowing her to obtain an abortion.

“On Thursday, Travis County District Judge Maya Guerra Gamble granted Dallas resident Kate Cox, 31, a temporary restraining order allowing her to terminate her pregnancy. Cox learned at 20 weeks pregnant that her fetus has full trisomy 18, a chromosomal abnormality that will most likely be fatal for the child before birth or very soon after,” according to The Texas Tribune.

However, in response to the emergency declaration, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed an emergency petition with the Texas Supreme Court and also threatened to prosecute any doctor who gives Cox an abortion.

“Even so, Paxton’s office issued a statement shortly after the ruling, telling Houston Methodist Hospital, the Women’s Hospital of Texas and Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston that the restraining order ‘will not insulate hospitals, doctors, or anyone else, from civil and criminal liability for violating Texas’ abortion laws,'” the Tribune notes.
