Did Kamala Harris just accuse Israel of ‘intentionally’ killing civilians in Gaza?

Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to suggest on Saturday that Israel is intentionally killing civilians in Gaza, though she admitted she doesn’t know “exactly who was killed.”

Asked by a reporter about Hamas’ claims that Israel killed 200 Palestinians in the first day after the temporary cease-fire collapsed, Harris replied, “I don’t have the details to tell you exactly who was killed, but I will say this. We have been very clear about where we stand on this, which is, innocent civilians’ lives should not be intentionally targeted and that Israel must do more to protect innocent life in Gaza and innocent civilians in Gaza.”

The remark drew instant backlash on X, as users blasted the vice president for what they believed was a response steeped in ignorance.

“It’s literally your job to have the details,” one user stated.

“That’s what a box of rocks looks like when interviewed,” another noted.

“She’s qualified – at best – to be showing us how to make nachos in an air fryer on TikTok,” declared a third.

As BizPac Review reported, the Israel Defense Forces have accused Hamas of violating the international rules of war with its use of ambulances on the battlefield to transport Hamas terrorists and its use of “human shields” at a hospital under which they built a vast underground command center.

And, as many were quick to point out, it was Hamas who intentionally targeted Israeli citizens when they attacked on October 7.

“Israel didn’t start this war!” exclaimed one user on X. “Israel is now telling Gaza what buildings they are targeting. Flyers are dropped well before the attack, giving innocent people plenty of time to leave the area. IDF ground troops are picking off Hamas – not innocent people! Israel IS NOT AT FAULT!”tr

 

Also on Saturday, Harris “reiterated that under no circumstances will the United States permit the forced relocation of Palestinians from from Gaza or the West Bank, the besiegement of Gaza, or the redrawing of the borders of Gaza,” according to a statement released by the White House following a meeting between the Vice President and President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi of Egypt in Dubai.

“The Vice President discussed U.S. ideas for post-conflict planning in Gaza including efforts on reconstruction, security, and governance,” the statement continues.  “She emphasized that these efforts can only succeed if they are pursued in the context of a clear political horizon for the Palestinian people towards a state of their own led by a revitalized Palestinian Authority and have significant support from the international community and the countries of the region.”

Gaza, Harris stressed, can not be controlled by Hamas.

That, she “made clear,” would be “untenable for Israel’s security, the well-being of the Palestinian people, and regional security.”
