Few Americans under 50 years of age can remember Jimmy Carter’s presidency. After all, he did serve through 1980, which was 44 years ago. For those who do remember, it can be described in one word: “Inflationary.”
Senator McCain’s Prophetic Observation
In 2008, then Presidential candidate, John McCain professed, “Barack Obama is running for Jimmy Carter’s second term.” Democrats dismissed the late Senator’s prediction. Obama was seen as a fresh face. His words echoed the same optimism reflected by John F. Kennedy 48 years previously. His ideology proved quite different.
A lot of Americans took issue with former President, George W. Bush, primarily due to his affinity for “endless wars in far-a-way places.” One favorable aspect can be noted. Bush immediately returned to Texas when his second term ended. His presidency was over. He had no interest in bucking tradition by shadowing and second-guessing the president-elect.
This was not the case with Obama. He continues to reside in Washington. Republicans have accused Barack Obama of “continuing his presidency” through the increasingly feeble Joe Biden. There is some credence to this assertion. His fingerprints appear to be on many, if not most of Biden’s initiatives.
Different Face, Same Agenda
Older party members were relieved with Biden’s nomination. He represented a time of peace that came with the dissolution of the former Soviet Union. Mitch McConnell lauded Biden as “a person who we can work with.” Yet when the aged Biden took office, it became clear that 2021 would be more reminiscent of 2009 than 1996.
The Obama and later the Biden Administration objectives can be described as “unrestrained government spending,” accompanied by “growth in government.” Dodd-Frank and the Green New Deal carried the same verdict: “Americans would be forced to pay more for everything because the measures resulted in inflation.” We were told that these measures were “for our own betterment.”
Dodd-Frank- A Novice Creation
The 2008 financial meltdown was described by Obama as “the fault of greedy Mortgage Brokers.” Nothing can be further from the truth!
The meltdown was caused by the repeal of Glass-Steagall, almost a decade earlier. A bipartisan coalition led by Bill Clinton, Robert Rubin, Phil Graham, Chuck Schumer and others devised a way for banks to become involved in securities. It amounted to repealing a 1933 statute that separated commercial banking from investment banking. In the end, its repeal proved to be a disaster! Few took notice. Credit former Texas Governor, Rick Perry for calling attention to it.
Barack Obama had no experience in banking! He was a community organizer. Barney Frank’s career focus had been on gay rights. Former Connecticut Senator, Christopher Dodd will always be remembered for his sweetheart deal with Countrywide Home Loans. Many considered him to be the most corrupt Senator in Washington.
Dodd-Frank added layers of regulations to mortgage banking. It now costs roughly twice as much and takes almost twice as long to get borrowers approved. Self-employed borrowers have been noticeably scrutinized. Underwriters were indoctrinated in the Obamanomics ideology of “enhanced scrutiny.” In other words, “Let’s find a way to disqualify the borrower!” And of course, “it is for their own good!”
The Green New Deal: An Inflation Machine
Climate alarmists are learning that people aren’t as stupid as originally thought. They have concluded that inflation is the by-product of the Green New Deal. Gasoline prices have doubled. Energy costs are up 50% or more. Food prices have skyrocketed. Suddenly, people are realizing that they were handed a massive pay cut! Americans on fixed incomes have been hurt the worst! Meanwhile, a tiny group of “stakeholder capitalists” who were already at the top of the economic ladder, are getting richer!
“I voted for Biden but I don’t know what he’s talking about when he says ‘Bidenomics,’ or whatever it is, is working,” Sabrina Jones of Denver, Colorado, told The Epoch Times. “Prices aren’t going down for me or anybody I know.”
“I feel like things have gotten worse since Trump, and I don’t think they’re going to get better,” Ms. Jones said.
“If you want to know if I’m better off, take a look under my Christmas tree, if I can afford one this year,” Matt Price, a Republican from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, told The Epoch Times. “I think Biden’s out of touch with reality.”
Biden officials are scrambling to rationalize Democrat policies. Americans appear to not be buying it.
Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, who was promoted to the job by President Biden, recently pointed out that while inflation is dropping, that’s not the same as deflation, where prices are going down. Instead, it’s disinflation, where prices are slowly increasing.
“If the economy is doing better, if this disinflationary process that we keep talking about is actually in process, then why are people so upset?” Ms. Cook recently said during a speech at Duke University. “And I asked myself, ‘Why am I so upset?’ Well, I know why I’m upset. Because I have GasBuddy on my phone and I’m looking around and I’m like, ‘So um, when are prices gonna get back to where they were before?’ Right?”
Ms. Cook said that most Americans “are not just looking for disinflation” but for prices to return to where they were before the pandemic began.
Censorship Becoming Increasingly Obvious
With increasing skepticism throughout the electorate, the government is predictably turning to censorship. This would have been difficult to imagine when remembering the Biden of the 90’s. Conversely, it’s easy to predict when reviewing the Obama presidency. Expect a continuation, if not an increase in censorship as the 2024 election date grows near.
