The leader of Bharatiya Janata Party Information Technology Cell (BJP IT), a department of the Indian political party, shared a tweet alleging that messages to opposition leaders that appeared to be from Apple warning that “state-sponsored attackers” may be targeting their iPhones are linked to billionaire philanthropist George Soros.
BJP IT head Amit Malviya shared the thread focused on the network Access Now, calling it a “sinister plot.”

The shared threat questioned why Access Now was mentioned in the Apple notification as a “DIGITAL SECURITY HELPLINE.” The thread noted that the warning was received by some politicians in India to accuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government of phone hacking and spying.
There was a suggestion that the “hacking warning” wasn’t from Apple, but from the Soros-linked NGO.
Sanjeev Sanyal, a best-selling author and principal economic advisor to the Government of India, tweeted: “The security threat messages being received by some prominent Apple users is not quite from Apple but from a Soros-linked NGO called [Access Now]. How is this external agency able to send such authentic looking messages [through] the system??”

Ministers of the Modi-led government responded to the controversy on Tuesday to say they will investigate the allegations and “get to the bottom of these notifications” after screenshots of the alert sent by Apple went viral on social media, the Independent reported.
“A parliamentary committee on information technology is considering summoning representatives of Apple India over the alerts sent to public figures, an unnamed official of the committee was quoted as saying by news agency ANI on Wednesday,” the UK newspaper reported. “The committee’s secretariat expressed ‘deep concern’ over the alerts and is treating the matter with the ‘utmost seriousness’, the official said.”
