The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted a raid Thursday morning at the home of the chief fundraiser for Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams, The New York Times reported.
An FBI agent from the public corruption squad questioned Brianna Suggs, who was Adams’ campaign consultant and who currently works with the mayor to advance his agenda, during the raid on her home but did not take her into custody, according to the NYT.
Suggs has raised nearly $2.5 million for Adams’ 2025 reelection campaign and has received $100,000 from the mayor’s campaign in the past two years to help with fundraising and campaign consulting services in addition to $50,000 in 2021 for assisting with the mayor’s initial election campaign.
“The campaign has always held itself to the highest standards,” Vito Pitta, the counsel for Adams’ 2021 campaign, told ABC7 News. “The campaign will of course comply with any inquiries, as appropriate.”
Suggs also works as a lobbyist in the state and has received $100,000 from a local political committee to support officials who align with Adams’s mayoral agenda, the NYT reported. She also received funding from a real estate agency in 2022 to lobby for the mayor and the city council on the group’s behalf.
Adams abruptly canceled his trip to Washington, D.C. on Thursday morning after publishing a video of himself on a plane on X, formerly known as Twitter, according to the NYT. The mayor decided to cancel the trip to “deal with a matter” and plans to “reschedule” his meeting in D.C. as soon as possible, according to a spokesperson for Adams.
Officials refused to elaborate on whether Adams had returned to New York in response to the FBI raid, the NYT noted.
The FBI, Suggs, and the mayor’s office did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.
