An 85-year-old woman held hostage for 16 days by Hamas terrorists before being released spoke to reporters, explaining why she wished them peace despite going “through hell.”
Yocheved Lifshitz was seen in video footage shaking the hand of a Hamas gunman, saying “shalom,” which means peace in Hebrew, before leaving with a Red Cross worker after spending more than two weeks as a hostage, the Daily Mail reported.

The wheelchair-bound woman was dressed head-to-toe in black as she spoke from Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv with her daughter.
Asked why she shook the Hamas terrorist’s hand, Lifshitz replied: “Because they treated us very nicely.”
Keep in mind that her husband is still held hostage, and Lifshitz also admitted that she was beaten with a stick when first taken hostage on October 7.

“They stormed into our homes. They beat people. They kidnapped others, the old and the young without distinction,” she said. “The young men hit me on the way. They didn’t break my ribs but it was painful and I had difficulty breathing.”
The elderly woman described the tunnel system beneath Gaza as a “spider’s web,” and said she was fed just once a day but did acknowledge that Hamas provided some medicine and hygiene supplies.
“They gave us pitta bread, hard cheese, some low fat cream cheese, and cucumber and that was our food for the entire day,” she said.
Her daughter, Sharone Lifschitz, told reporters that “the story is not over,” and that the family hopes all hostages being held captive will be freed.
