Majority of Americans ‘uneasy’ about Biden’s ability to handle an international crisis: Poll

Daily Caller News Foundation

A majority of Americans doubt President Joe Biden’s ability to effectively handle an international crisis, according to a new poll.

A recent poll by YouGov reports that 53% of respondents are “uneasy” about Biden’s ability to effectively manage the United States’ response to such international crises. Just 35% of respondents expressed their confidence in Biden’s ability to respond, while 12% were unsure. Moreover, 59% of independent voters doubted Biden’s ability, joining 86% of Republicans and 17% of Democrats.

During his presidency, Biden has overseen the United States’ response to three major foreign policy issues and foreign conflicts — the withdrawal of the United States military from Afghanistan, Russia’s war against Ukraine, and Israel’s conflict with Hamas following terrorist attacks on Oct. 7 of this year.

The Biden administration has received criticism from left-wing organizations and some Muslim groups for its support of Israel’s response to terrorist attacks by Hamas in October, with Biden having promised to support Israel and send military aid to the country ahead of a possible ground invasion of Gaza. By contrast, conservatives have attacked his continued support for Ukraine in its war against Russia, claiming that the U.S. has spent too much money aiding the country.

Biden’s leadership of the U.S. military’s withdrawal from Afghanistan received great bipartisan criticism in 2021 following the death of 13 American military personnel and 150 Afghans in a suicide bombing by elements of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria—Khosran Province at Kabul’s airport during evacuations. The expeditious pace of the evacuation and control of Afghanistan by the Taliban has also been cited by critics as a reason for doubt.

The poll was conducted between Oct. 14 and 17 and surveyed 1,500 adult U.S. citizens residing within the United States. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
