A suspect was fatally shot by San Francisco police after he drove a vehicle into the visa office of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China Monday afternoon.
The driver is seen emerging from the blue Honda sedan in the footage below as security converges on him. Bleeding from the crash, the suspect reportedly said, “Where’s the CCP?”
KTVU cited a witness to report that the man was armed with a crossbow and two knives. He would be shot dead after police arrived, although the specific circumstances that resulted in officers opening fire are unclear at this time.
“When officers arrived at the scene they found the vehicle had come to rest inside the lobby of the Chinese consulate,” SDPD spokesperson Kathryn Winters said. “Officers entered made contact with the suspect and an officer-involved shooting occurred.”

“Officers rendered aid and summoned paramedics from the SF Fire Department, and in spite of the life-saving efforts of the police officers, firefighter paramedics, and the personnel at the hospital the suspect was later pronounced deceased at the hospital,” Winters added. “This is an open and active investigation and the San Francisco Police Department is working and coordinating with investigators from the US State Department.”
Stanford student Sergii Molchanov was at the consulate to apply for a visa and witnessed the crash, and later heard police open fire. He shared a short video clip he took online:

“He looked at me and I was a little bit scared because I didn’t know if he had any gun or something,” Molchanov told the SF Standard.
“It’s quite terrifying and shocking to see,” the student said. “I’ve seen this on TV and to witness it in real life is quite different. People were terrified. I was quite shocked with all that and am still processing that.”
The Chinese consulate issued a statement condemning the “violent attack.”
“Our Embassy severely condemns this violent attack and reserves the right to pursue responsibilities related to the incident. Our embassy has made solemn representations to the United States, demanding that the truth be quickly ascertained and dealt with seriously in accordance with the law,” the release said.
