A Michigan teenager who starred in a viral video of a chair that was thrown at a teacher’s head has been arrested by police and will reportedly face felony charges for the stunning act of violence that is a textbook example of the dangerous environment in today’s schools.
The shocking incident went down inside of a classroom at the Southwestern Academy in Flint where two female students were engaging in what appeared to be a heated altercation with one grabbing the metal chair and hurling it across the room, striking the teacher who collapsed to the floor and was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Video of the chair toss was posted to X, the platform formerly named Twitter, where it has been viewed millions of times with the school issuing a statement that described the criminal act as a “physical altercation between two scholars.”

“Flint police Chief Terence Green said the school resource officer was called to break up a fight between two female high school juniors and found the teacher lying on the ground with head injuries,” according to ABC 12. Both students were arrested.
In a letter to parents, Flint Community Schools Superintendent Kevelin B. Jones II wrote “I want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our scholars and staff remain our top priority. We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident that transpired, where a teacher was subjected to a distressing attack by a scholar. I want to emphasize that this act of violence is unacceptable and goes against the values we hold dear in our educational community.”
Now, the chair-throwing “scholar” is in big-time legal trouble and is facing “two counts of felonious assault” that were authorized by the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office against the unnamed 15-year-old, ABC 12 reported.
The good news is that the victim is okay and will soon be returning to work.

“I am relieved to report that the teacher involved in this incident is doing well and was released from the hospital the same day. The resilience and dedication displayed by this educator are truly commendable,” Jones said in an update to parents. “Furthermore, I am heartened to inform you that the teacher has chosen to return to work. This decision reflects the profound commitment our educators have to their mission of educating and supporting our scholars.”
“On the day of the teacher’s return, scholars and staff will be present to extend their warm welcome. They consider this teacher a hero, and we share in their sentiment,” the superintendent wrote. “It is through the unity and resilience of our community that we can move forward, stronger and more determined to create a safe and supportive environment for all.”
