U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) died on Thursday night at the age of 90.
According to a Friday statement from Feinstein’s chief of staff, James Sauls, the senator “passed away last night at her home in Washington D.C.”
“Her passing is a great loss for so many, from those who loved and cared for her to the people of California that she dedicated her life to serving.”

“In recent years, Ms. Feinstein, 90, had suffered from frail health and memory issues that made it difficult for her to function alone and prompted calls for her to step down, which she consistently rejected,” The New York Times reports. “Her condition had grown more acute over the past several months, after a bout with shingles that caused serious complications, including a case of encephalitis, and prompted her to begin using a wheelchair in the halls of the Capitol.”
According to The Times, Feinstein’s staff was “officially informed of her death at 9 a.m” on Friday.
Almost immediately, tributes, rumors, and snarky reactions flooded X.
“Senator Dianne Feinstein, whose last major act as a senator was to orchestrate and promote false accusations of sexual assault against a Supreme Court nominee, has passed away,” wrote Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton. “RIP.”
“Her Legacy: Helping To Destroy The Future of The United States of America…” stated independent journalist Matt Wallace.
“Dianne Feinstein managed to die in office just like we said she would,” said political strategist Joey Mannarino. “They couldn’t keep her alive long enough to keep the seat warm for [Democratic California Rep. Adam] Schiff, but they sure tried.”
“Poor woman had to spend her final days being a slave to Schumer and Pelosi rather than with her family,” Mannarino added.

In a statement released by the White House, President Joe Biden called Feinstein, the first woman to represent the state of California, “a true trailblazer” and “a cherished friend.”
“As we mourn with her daughter Katherine and the Feinstein family, her team in the Senate, and the people of California, we take comfort that Dianne is reunited again with her beloved Richard,” Biden said. “May God Bless Dianne Feinstein.”

The task of appointing a temporary replacement for the senator now falls on California Governor Gavin Newsom, who, in 2021, announced that he would select a black woman should Feinstein retire before her 2024 term was up.
Already, people on X believe they know who that black woman may be.
“Let me introduce your new Senator from California…. Kamala Harris” said Real America’s Voice host Grant Stinchfield, “and your new VP… Gov. Gavin Newsom.”
“In many respects, God just handed the Democrat Party a monster gift,” Stinchfield said in an accompanying video.
While Harris may not “go easily,” he explained, it would open the door for Biden to appoint Newsom as vice president.
It would explain Newsom’s recent gushing praise for Biden.
“Something is afoot on that front,” Stinchfield said. And now, maybe, just maybe, Gavin Newsom may be the next vice president of the United States, and then what would that mean for the race for the presidency?”

Meanwhile, Newsom was paying tribute to his “lifelong mentor.”
“Dianne Feinstein was many things — a powerful, trailblazing U.S. Senator; an early voice for gun control; a leader in times of tragedy and chaos. But to me, she was a dear friend, a lifelong mentor, and a role model not only for me, but to my wife and daughters for what a powerful, effective leader looks like,” he wrote on X.
“There is simply nobody who possessed the strength, gravitas, and fierceness of Dianne Feinstein,” he said. “Jennifer and I are deeply saddened by her passing, and we will mourn with her family in this difficult time.”
