‘A ploy’ or a good start? McCarthy announces formal impeachment inquiry into Biden’s ‘culture of corruption’

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, this being a political lesson Democrats are getting a firsthand taste of — the difference being a matter of cause.

Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced on Tuesday that he is calling on his committees to open a “formal impeachment inquiry” into President Joe Biden’s conduct in relation to his son Hunter Biden’s suspected foreign business deals.

“I am directing our House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. Over the past several months, House Republicans have uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct — a culture of corruption,” Speaker McCarthy said in remarks outside his office on Capitol Hill.

“These are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction and corruption,” he explained. “They warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives. That’s why today I am directing our House committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.”

Media gatekeepers reporting on the development stressed that the GOP has yet to prove that Biden directly profited off his son’s business dealings.

“This logical next step will give our committees the full power to gather all the facts and answers for the American public,” McCarthy said.

House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer, House Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan and House Ways and Means Committee chairman Jason Smith will lead the inquiry, according to the speaker.

“I do not make this decision lightly,” McCarthy said. “Regardless of your party, or who you voted for, these facts concern all Americans.”

FBI whistleblower Steve Friend cautioned that the move was just a “ploy” by McCarthy to justify the GOP surrendering to pass a short-term spending bill and avert a government shutdown.

“[McCarthy] will use the concept of an impeachment inquiry to justify forfeiting across the board on the budget fight and pass a CR,” he said. “This is a temporary salve to the id of the GOP grassroots base. Even an actual impeachment of President Biden (which will never occur with a Democrat controlled Senate) would not change the policies of the administration.”

“Giving up the budget fight means the GOP surrenders the opportunity to address a weaponized  [Justice Dept] and [FBI]. They are ignoring the border crisis. They are refusing to address COVID tyranny. Out-of-control spending ensures rampant inflation for the forseeable future,” Friend continued. “Moreover, McCarthy has telegraphed his intention. So now there is leverage to hold up the CR in return for more concessions from House GOP- like Ukrainian aid packages.”
