A “welcome” package that was being distributed to students as they arrived on campus at North Carolina State University angered some parents who were upset about the raunchy contents.
The packets, which contained snacks and other essential items also included condoms, lubricant, wipes for “intimate parts” and a flyer that mentioned such potentially unsafe practices as group sex and one-night stands.
In a response to a campus move-in weekend Facebook post by the university asking if students needed any advice, one user responded with a picture of the “Wolfpack Wellness” pack and its contents.
“No advice, a question. A friend was moving in their child this week. Why was NCSU handing out these ‘sex kits’?” the user asked of the items that could be seen by some as being inappropriate and encouraging of promiscuity.

In addition to the sexual hygiene items in the packet, a flyer was included on how to protect against sexually transmitted diseases using a game titled S.M.A.S.H. that mentions risky sexual activities.
The school responded to the Facebook user, stating that the packages are distributed as a part of a partnership with CVS and that the company had been notified of the “questionable flyer” that was included by the condom manufacturer.
“Thank you for reaching out to express your concerns about the fall wellness packs. In partnership with CVS, NC State distributes these packs to each incoming student class to provide them with healthy snacks, home care products, and self-care aids as they acclimate to campus. University Housing has been made aware of a questionable flyer from a condom manufacturer included in the packs and has stopped distribution of the packs. Our team has also alerted CVS of the issue,” an NC State representative wrote.

“I mean there are definitely some fun items in here but honestly it’s a bit more tame… more tame than what what I’ve heard other people say what’s in here,” one student told local news outlet WYFF.
“I wouldn’t say I’m offended at all,” another NC State student told the outlet. “People can do really whatever they want with any of these items. I don’t see myself being in a position where I need to be offended.”

With a focus on programs and services, fostering community, academics and awareness, our plan seeks to transform wellness within the Wolfpack,” Wolfpack Wellness describes itself on the university website. “Developed by the Wellness Advisory Committee, our six-element strategy is rooted in socioecological health models as well as organizational and higher education literature.”
