‘I don’t believe it’: McConnell’s physician addresses rumors freeze-up caused by stroke, seizure

Congressional attending physician Dr. Brian Monahan’s examination of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell addressed rumors about his health after another freeze-up episode.

Last week, McConnell appeared to have a medical episode while delivering public remarks which led to much speculation about his fitness to serve in Congress. On Tuesday, Dr. Monahan said there was “no evidence” that a seizure or stroke played any part after a series of tests were conducted.

“My examination of you following your August 30, 2023 brief episode included several medical evaluations: brain MRI imaging, EEG study and consultations with several neurologists for a comprehensive neurology assessment,” he wrote, according to Fox News. “There is no evidence that you have a seizure disorder or that you experienced a stroke, TIA or movement disorder such as Parkinson’s disease.”

He also stated that he would not recommend making any changes to McConnell’s treatment plan as he recovers from a fall in March 2023.

As American Wire reported on Thursday, this is the second time in over a month that the senate minority leader has frozen up, causing his aides to rush to his side. The moment quickly went viral, and social media users aren’t entirely sold on the attending physician’s explanation.
