Franklin Foer, a staff writer at The Atlantic and dependable Biden gatekeeper, has written a book about President Biden’s first two years in office and he’s busy plugging his efforts.
The title alone is a big clue on what you can expect from the book: “The Last Politician: Inside Joe Biden’s White House and the Struggle for America’s Future.”
Even when supposedly being critical of the 80-year-old president, Foer’s efforts come across as campaign fodder for Biden’s reelection, as seen when he wrote about Biden having insecurities about being “perceived as stupid.”
“He’s buried in details,” Foer said during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday. “He’s somebody who’s very technocratically obsessed with the intricacies of policies. He’s a very activist president in that he micromanages a lot of the dealings in the White House.”

Host Chuck Todd, a fellow Biden gatekeeper, chimed in to say, “What you’re describing is much different than his public persona.”
“Yeah. I think one of the things that’s so interesting about Joe Biden is that he has these insecurities that govern a lot of ways in which he moves through the world,” Foer said. “One of his primary insecurities is he doesn’t want to be perceived as stupid because he had this plagiarism scandal in the 1980s.”
“So when he walks into an interview or walks into a press conference, he wants to have mastery of what he’s discussing,” he continued. “So his prep sessions can go on for long periods of time.”
Perceived as stupid? Social media took issue with how Foer presented the case that Biden is a studious taskmaster with his nose to the grindstone — keep in mind that in the few press conferences the president holds, he often calls on specific reporters by name and there have been indications that the White House has gotten the questions beforehand.

Like Robert Gates noted, he’s always been wrong on everything. And he’s a pathological liar. And a fabulist. And a plagerist. Speaking loudly and wagging a finger (or creepy whispering) doesn’t make one appear to have mastery. And it definitely doesn’t in his case.
