‘If a bullet couldn’t stop you…’: Shooting survivor Steve Scalise reveals cancer diagnosis, support pours in

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise revealed Tuesday morning that he has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and will be undergoing treatment.

In a post on X, previously known as Twitter, Scalise explained that he hadn’t been “feeling like himself” recently and decided to get some blood work done. Unfortunately, the tests revealed some “irregularities” that resulted in a diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma. He described the cancer as “very treatable” and said that he would be going through treatment for the “next several months” and remains optimistic about the outcome.

“After a few days of not feeling like myself this past week, I had some blood work done,” he wrote. “The results uncovered some irregularities and after undergoing additional tests, I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a very treatable blood cancer. I have now begun treatment, which will continue for the next several months.”

But his health concerns will not prevent him from continuing to do the work he was elected to do.

“I expect to work through this period and intend to return to Washington, continuing my work as Majority Leader and serving the people of Louisiana’s First Congressional District,” the message continued. “I am incredibly grateful we were able to detect this early and that this cancer is treatable. I am thankful for my excellent medical team, and with the help of God, support of my family, friends, colleagues, and constituents, I will tackle this with the same strength and energy as I have tackled past challenges.”

As his post began trending, support started rolling in:
